Loyola, Penn State Advance to NCAA Semis

PALO ALTO, Calif. (May 5, 2015) – The two teams that travelled the farthest to get to the NCAA Men’s Division I-II National Championship at Maples Pavilion at Stanford University also made the earliest exits on Tuesday.


Pfeiffer University, which traveled from North Carolina, fell to Loyola of Chicago, 25-20, 33-31, 25-15 in the first quarterfinal match. Hawaii, which traveled from Honolulu, fell to Penn State, 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 27-25 in the second.

Loyola will play UC Irvine in Thursday’s first semifinal at 6 p.m. PT. Penn State will face Lewis in the second semifinals at 8 p.m. PT.

Loyola’s Thomas Jaeschke led all scorers in the first match with 14 points on 12 kills, one ace and two block assists. Jonathan Martinez led Pfeiffer with 13 points on 11 kills, one ace and two block assists.

In the second match, Aaron Russell led all scorers with 23.5 points on 20 kills, one ace and three block assists. Taylor Averill led Hawaii with 19 points on 15 kills and eight block assists.
