U.S. Men's Update: Parks and Recreation

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Jan. 13, 2015) – U.S. Men’s setter Ryan Ammerman appeared at the dedication of the City of Anaheim Paul Revere Park on Jan. 10.

Ammerman (Denver, Colo.) appeared along with Christa Dietzen (Hopewell Township, Pa.) and Kayla Banwarth (Dubuque, Iowa) of the U.S. Women’s Team. The athletes distributed Mizuno jerseys and signed Molten volleyballs. Ammerman also played sand volleyball with kids at the event.

Paul Revere made a special appearance at the event and Ammerman donned a tri-cornered hat as well.

Anaheim, Calif., is the Official Host City of the U.S. Men’s and Women’s National Teams. The teams train at the American Sports Centers.


U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) led all scorers with 12 points as his Polish PlusLiga team Lotos Trefl Gdansk defeated MKS Banimex Bedzin, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15 on Jan. 9. Troy scored on 10 kills and two aces. Gdansk is in second place in the league.

Leading the league is Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, which includes U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.) and middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.). Both athletes played primarily as substitutes on Jan. 10 when Rzeszów fell to Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, 25-23, 25-15, 21-25, 19-25, 15-10.

Outside hitter AJ Nally (Rochester, N.Y.) started the first two sets and scored nine points as Transfer Bydgoszcz defeated AZS Częstochowa, 25-15, 22-25, 25-22, 25-22 on Jan. 10. Nally scored on six attacks a match-high three blocks. Bydgoszcz is in fourth place in the league.


On Jan. 7, middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Dinamo Moscow faced Lokomotiv Novosibirsk and David Lee (Alpine, Calif.). Holt scored six points on two kills, three blocks and one ace as Moscow won, 25-23, 25-22, 27-25. Lee did not play in the match.

On Jan. 10, Lee started the second and third sets and scored four points on four kills as Novosibirsk defeated Prikame Perm, 25-18, 25-20, 25-18.


U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and his French team Ajaccio fell to Paris on Jan. 10, 25-19, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-12. Watten was credited with 27 receptions, 89 percent positive.

U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.) scored 10 points and middle blocker Dan McDonnell (Glendale, Ariz.) added six as their French team Tours defeated St-Nazaire, 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 on Jan. 10. Smith scored on four kills and a match-high six blocks. McDonnell scored on five attacks and one block. Tours is in fifth place in the league.


U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and his Greek team Olympiacos defeated Pamvoxaikos, 29-27, 25-16, 25-19 on Jan. 10. Clark started the first two sets and scored 11 points on 10 kills and one block. Pamvoxaikos includes U.S. middle blocker Spencer Rowe (Trabuca Canyon, Calif.), who played as a substitute.


U.S. opposite Will Price (Laytonsville, Md.) led all scorers with 27 points as his Chinese team Beijing fell to Shanghai, 25-19, 19-25, 25-19, 25-20 on Jan. 11.

U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) scored 12 points but it was not enough as his Chinese team Fujian fell to Army, 25-15, 27-25, 25-18 on Jan. 11.


Setter B.J. Boldog (Palatine, Ill.) Started the third and fourth sets as his German team CV Mitteldeutschland fell to SWD powervolleys Duren, 33-35, 25-22, 25-17, 25-20 on Jan. 10. Boldog scored five points on four kills and one block. He also helped set the team to a .347 hitting efficiency.
