COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (March 3, 2014) - The Dorothy C. Boyce Banquet and Reception will honor the 1964 U.S. Olympic Volleyball Teams and 11 other legendary figures within the volleyball community as part of USA Volleyball’s corporate awards program on May 21 at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel. The Boyce Banquet is the signature event during the USA Volleyball Annual Meetings.

The individual honorees represent a wide array of categories within USA Volleyball’s award structure. Alnet ‘Scotty’ Bailess and Miki McFadden will be presented with the All-Time Great Player Award, while Kathy Gregory and Don Shaw will be honored with All-Time Great Coach Awards. The George J. Fisher Leader in Volleyball Awards will be presented to Jon Lee, Linda Murphy and Andy Reitinger. The Wilbur H. Peck Referee Emeritus Award will be given to Wally Hendricks. The James E. Coleman USA National Team Award will be given to Carl McGown.

The Dr. Harold T. Friermood “Frier” Award, the top honor given out by USA Volleyball, will be announced during the Boyce Banquet.

As part of the Boyce Moment, USA Volleyball will recognize the 1964 U.S. Women’s and Men’s Olympic Teams as part of the 50th anniversary of volleyball’s introduction into the Olympic Games. The addition of women’s volleyball into the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games was even more special as it marked the first women’s team competition of any sport contested in the Olympics.

Cost to attend the banquet and reception, which starts at 5:30 p.m., is $40 per person or $360 for a table of 10. To purchase a Boyce Banquet table for 10, click here. To purchase individual tickets to the Boyce Banquet, click here.

Al Monaco, chair and the USA Volleyball Foundation Board of Directors, cordially invites you to the Annual Stars Heritage Dinner, which will be held May 22 in conjunction with other programs and activities of the USA Volleyball Annual Meetings in Phoenix. The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 7 p.m. with dinner to follow. The cost is $50. The dinner location is The Arrogant Butcher in Phoenix. The Stars Heritage Dinner is a great opportunity to celebrate the successes of the Foundation in a casual atmosphere with those that have been and are a part of the USA Volleyball Family. This year, to continue the celebration of our 1964 Olympic Volleyball Teams, we will be recognizing the Olympians and invite them to share some of their stories with us.
