GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala – Seeking a follow up to 2012’s bronze medal, the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team will begin play of the U20 NORCECA Continental Championship on Wednesday, as they face St. Lucia.

Before 2012’s bronze, the U.S. had a string of four-consecutive gold medals at the Continental Championship dating back to 2004. In those four championships, the Dominican Republic finished runner-up to the U.S. WJNT, but in 2012 the Dominicans finally captured gold with Mexico taking silver.

The gold and silver medal-winning teams at this year’s NORCECA will receive an all-important automatic berth into the 2015 FIVB World Championship.

The two pool winners with the highest ranking at the end of the prelims will advance directly to the semifinal round, while pool winners with the lowest ranking will join the second placed teams in the quarterfinals.
