COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Dec. 8, 2014) – This week features another round intriguing matches in Europe as U.S. Women’s National Volleyball Team players are playing in their club season. For details and other team news from around the world, read the Weekly Update below.

Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich., Lakeshore Region) and Kim Hill (Portland, Ore., Columbia Empire Region) were selected 2014 USA Volleyball Female Indoor Player of the Year and Most Improved Player of the Year, respectively. For details on their honors, click here.

Courtney Thompson, who is playing for Volero Zurich in the Swiss League and the CEV Champions League this winter, took a few moments to answer a question-and-answer session with CEV. LARSON-BURBACH WITH ECZACIBASI: Jordan Larson-Burbach (Hooper, Neb., Twitter, Instagram), a 2012 U.S. Olympian and starting outside hitters, is playing for Eczacibasi Vitra of the Turkish League this winter. Eczacibasi downed Sariyer 21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-13 on Dec. 2 as Larson-Burbach and other key players rested and did not play in the match. Eczacibasi overcame a slow start to defeat Galatasaray 22-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-22 on Dec. 6. Larson-Burbach was credited with 14 points on 10 kills via 35 attacks, three blocks and an ace. She added 17 receptions with a 59 percent positive. Eczacibasi, tied for second in the Turkish League with 23 points, moves into the 10th round of the regular season to face Idman Ocagi on Dec. 14. In CEV Champions League Pool D, Eczacibasi meets Volero Zurich on Dec. 11 in a battle of 2-0 teams. To watch the match live at 11 a.m. PT on Thursday, click here.

HILDEBRAND WITH FENERBAHCE: Kristin Hildebrand (Orem, Utah, Twitter, Instagram) is playing for Fenerbahce of the Turkish League this winter. Fenerbahce eased by Bakirkoy Yesilyurt 25-13, 25-14, 25-13 on Dec. 2. Hildebrand pocketed 10 points with nine kills on 20 attacks and an ace. Fenerbahce held off Nilufer 25-23, 25-22, 28-30, 25-13 on Dec. 5. Hildebrand tallied eight points with seven kills on 14 attacks and just one error in the victory. Fenerbahce, tied for second place in the Turkish League with 23 points, challenges 10th-place Besiktas on Dec. 13 in the Turkish League 10th round. In CEV Champions League action, Fenerbahce puts its 2-0 record on the line against Nantes VB on Dec. 9 at 11 a.m. PT. To watch the match online, click here.

HOOD WITH ILBANK: Regan Hood (Dallas, Texas, Instagram) is playing for Ilbank of the Turkish League in 2014-15, as well as the CEV Challenge Cup. Ilbank was handed a tough 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-13 loss by Besiktas on Dec. 2. Hood tallied a team-best 19 points with 18 kills on 40 attacks and a block. She handled 45 receptions with a 71 positive percent. Ilbank lost to Canakkale 25-23, 24-26, 25-23 25-16 on Dec. 6. Hood talled a team-best 22 points with 20 kills on 47 attacks, one block and one ace. She added a 41 positive reception percent on 41 of her team’s 88 chances. Ilbank, with five points and in 11th place, plays ninth-place Sariyer on Dec. 13 in the 10th round of the Turkish League. In CEV Challenge Cup action, Ilbank meets Dinamo Romprest Bucuresti in a home-and-home series in the 16th Final Round on Dec. 9 and Dec. 16. NEWCOMBE WITH IDMAN OCAGI: Sonja Newcombe (Lake Arrowhead, Calif., Twitter, Instagram) is playing for Trabzon Idman Ocagi of the Turkish League this winter. Idman Ocagi was knocked off 25-16, 24-26, 25-22, 26-24 by Nilufer on Dec. 2. Newcombe contributed 12 points in the loss, including 10 kills on 25 attacks and two blocks. Idman Ocagi stopped Bursa B. Sehir BLD 25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25 on Dec. 6. Newcombe placed 15 points on the score sheet with 11 kills on 34 attacks and four aces on a team-high 20 service attempts. Idman Ocagi, currently fifth in the Turkish regular season, meets second-place Eczacibasi on Dec. 14.

AKINRADEWO, DIXON WITH RABITA BAKU: Foluke Akinradewo (Plantation, Fla., Twitter, Instagram), a 2012 U.S. Olympic Games starter at middle blocker, and Tori Dixon (Burnsville, Minn., Twitter, Instagram) are competing for Rabita Baku in the Azerbaijan Super League and the CEV Champions League this club season. Rabita swept Azerrail 25-8, 25-18, 25-23 on Dec. 3. In its second Azerbaijan Super League match of the week, Rabita blanked Telekom 25-20, 25-22, 25-20 on Dec. 6. Dixon started the first two sets, collecting six kills on eight errorless attacks. Akinradewo added four kills on eight attacks, one block and one ace. For a photo gallery of the match, click here. LLOYD WITH LOKOMOTIV BAKU: Carli Lloyd (Bonsall, Calif., Instagram) is setting for Lokomotiv Baku this winter in the Azerbaijan Super League. Lokomotiv suffered its first loss of the season after being upset 25-23, 22-25, 13-25, 25-19, 17-5 by AzerYol on Dec. 3. Lokomotiv came back to blank Azerrail 25-19, 25-16, 25-16 on Dec. 6 in its second Azerbaijan Super League match of the week. Lloyd set the squad to a 43 kill percent while adding two individual kills on three attacks, four blocks and an ace for seven points. Lokomotiv plays Crvena Zvezda Beograd on Dec. 11 in the first match of the CEV Cup 8th Final Round home-and-home series, with the second contest on Dec. 17.

PAOLINI WITH HITACHI: Lauren Paolini (Ann Arbor, Mich., Instagram) is playing for Hitachi in the Japan V-League this winter. Hitachi rallied to defeat previously undefeated Hisamitsu Springs 25-17, 16-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11 on Dec. 6 in Okazaki. Paolini contributed 15 kills on 32 attacks and two blocks for 17 points in the victory. For the second time in as many days playing a five-set match, Hitachi came back to defeat Toyota 25-18, 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 17-15 on Dec. 7. Paolini collected 27 kills on 44 attacks and three blocks for 30 points. Hitachi improves to 4-3 one the season and in fifth place with 10 points.

MURPHY WITH AGEO MEDICS: Kelly Murphy (Wilmington, Ill., Twitter, Instagram) is competing in Japan this winter for Ageo Medics in the V-League’s top division. Ageo Medics opened this past weekend with a tough five-set loss (25-15, 23-25, 18-25, 28-26, 15-13) to NEC on Dec. 6. Murphy totaled 27 kills on 65 attacks, one block and two aces for 30 points. Ageo recovered the following day to down Denso 25-19, 20-25, 25-16, 26-24. Murphy totaled 31 points with 27 kills on 55 attacks, two blocks and two aces. Ageo Medics is now 3-4 on the season and in fourth place.

GLASS, ADAMS WITH CONEGLIANO: Alisha Glass (Leland, Mich., Twitter, Instagram), the best setter of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014, and Rachael Adams (Cincinnati, Ohio, Twitter, Instagram) are playing for Imoco Volley Conegliano of the Italian Serie A1 this winter. Conegliano swept third-place Pomi Casalmaggiore (6-2, 17 points) 25-17, 25-23, 31-29 on Dec. 3. Glass set the squad to a 52 kill percent and a .392 hitting efficiency (50-12-97). She chipped in three kills on four errorless attacks and two blocks for five points. Adams turned in six points with four kills on nine attacks and two blocks. To view a gallery of the match, click here. Conegliano held back an upset from 11th-place Volley 2002 Forli (1-7, 4 points) to win 25-15, 23-25, 25-16, 24-26, 15-12 on Dec. 7. Glass set the squad to a 54 kill percent and a .390 hitting efficiency (66-18-123). She added two kills on three errorless attacks, one ace and one block for four points. Adams crushed 13 kills on 17 attacks to go with four blocks for 17 points. Conegliano (5-3, 16 points), currently in fourth place, moves into the ninth round of the Italian Serie A1 to face top-ranked Liu Jo Modena (7-1, 21 points) on Dec. 14. Conegliano begins its CEV Cup 8th Final Round on Dec. 10 against Nova KBM Branik Maribor with the second home match of the home-and-home series on Dec. 17.

HILL, KLINEMAN WITH NOVARA: Kim Hill (Portland, Ore., Twitter, Instagram), the most valuable player of the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014, and Alix Klineman (Manhattan Beach, Calif., Twitter, Instagram) are playing for Igor Gorgonzola Novara of the Italian Serie A1 this winter. Novara blanked 10th-place Savino Del Bene Scandicci (2-6, 6 points) 25-15, 25-18, 25-18 on Dec. 3. Both Hill and Klineman scored team-leading 14 points in the victory. Hill’s points all came on kills from 25 attacks while adding an 80 positive reception percent on 15 chances. Klineman scored 12 kills, one block and one ace. However, Novara had its seven-match win streak to start the Italian season halted Dec. 7 as Liu Jo Modena came away with the 25-23, 25-20, 16-25, 25-20 upset. Both teams are now 7-1 in the league, Modena holds a 21-20 point lead to take over the league’s top spot. Klineman scored 16 points in the loss with 12 kills, three blocks and an ace. Hill added 11 points, all on kills via 28 attacks. She added a 75 positive reception percent on a team-leading 28 chances. Novara (7-1, 20 points) takes on sixth-place Foppapedretti Bergamo (4-4, 14 points) on Dec. 14 in the ninth round of the Italian Serie A1. Novara starts its CEV Challenge Cup 16th Final Round home-and-home series with ASPTT Mulhouse on Dec. 10 with the second match Dec. 17.

GIBBEMEYER WITH CASALMAGGIORE: Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn., Twitter, Instagram) is playing for Pomi Casalmaggiore of the Italian Serie A1 in 2014-15. Casalmaggiore had its win streak snapped by fourth-place Imoco Volley Conegliano (5-3, 16 points) in a 25-17, 25-23, 31-29 loss on Dec. 3. Gibbemeyer netted six kills on 13 errorless attacks to go with a block for seven points. To view a gallery of the match, click here. Pomi Casalmaggiore bounced back to sweep 12th-place Robur Tiboni Volley Urbino (0-8, 0 points) 25-9, 25-22, 25-17 on Dec. 7. Gibbemeyer provided five kills on 12 attacks and three blocks for eight points in the victory. Pomi Casalmaggiore (6-2, 17 points), now in third place in the regular season, faces 10th-place Savino Del Bene Scandicci (2-6, 6 poitns) on Dec. 13 in its next Italian Serie A1 match.

THOMPSON, NATALIE HAGGLUND WITH VOLERO ZURICH: Courtney Thompson (Kent, Wash., Twitter, Instagram) and Natalie Hagglund (Encinitas, Calif., Twitter, Instagram) are playing for Volero Zurich of the Swiss League this winter. Volero swept VC Kanti Schaffhausen 25-21, 25-17, 25-15 on Dec. 3, followed by taking down FC Luzern 25-20, 25-11, 28-30, 25-12 on Dec. 6 to improve to 10-0 in the Swiss League. Volero takes a 2-0 record into its Dec. 11 CEV Champions League match against Turkey’s Eczacibasi, which is also 2-0 in the first round pool. FAUCETTE WITH RC CANNES: U.S. Women’s National Team opposite Juliann Faucette (San Diego, Calif., Twitter, Instagram) is playing with RC Cannes in France this winter, along with four-time U.S. Olympian Logan Tom and Carly Wopat. RC Cannes swept Istres 25-18, 25-23, 25-18 on Dec. 5 in the French League regular season. While leading scorer Faucette was not suited for the match, Wopat and Tom pulled in eight and seven points, respectively. RC Cannes moves into the eighth round of league action on Dec. 15 against Terville Florange. With a 2-0 record in CEV Champions League action, RC Cannes will be tested on Dec. 11 by Turkey’s VakifBank Istanbul in its next match. DAVIS, LICTHMAN WITH Le CANNET: Two-time U.S. Olympic libero Nicole Davis (Stockton, Calif., Twitter, Instagram) and outside hitter Cassidy Lichtman (Poway, Calif., Twitter) are competing for Le Cannet in the French LAF this winter. Le Cannet defeated Vannes 25-12, 25-7, 25-16 on Dec. 5 in the French League. Lichtman pulled in 13 points with eight kills on 14 attacks with just one error to go with five aces. She added a 67 positive reception percent on 12 chances. Davis handled 10 receptions with a 70 positive percent (50 percent excellent). Le Cannet takes on St. Raphael on Dec. 13 in the eighth round of the regular season. LeCannet opens the CEV Challenge Cup 16th Final Round on Dec. 9 against Hapoel Kfar Saba with the second match of the home-and-home series on Dec. 18.

MIYASHIRO WITH ALLIANZ MTV STUTTGART: Tama Miyashiro (Kaneohe, Hawaii, Twitter), a 2012 U.S. Olympic silver medalist, joined Allianz MTV Stuttgart of the German Bundesliga in mid-November. Stuttgart continues winning with the arrival Miyashiro on the roster with the latest victory a 25-18, 25-11, 25-12 win over Rote Raben Vilsbiburg on Dec. 7. Miyashiro held a 56 positive reception percent in the victory as the libero. Stuttgart resumes Bundesliga action on Dec. 13 against Munster.

KREKLOW, JACKSON WITH DRESDNER: Molly Kreklow (Delano, Minn., Twitter, Instagram), who was in her first year with the U.S. National Team this past summer, and Cursty Jackson (Los Angeles, Twitter, Instagram) are playing for Dresdner SC of the German Bundesliga and in the European (CEV) Champions League. Dresdner was pushed to the max on Dec. 6, but came away with a 24-26, 25-16, 20-25, 25-18, 17-15 victory over 11th-place Kopenicker SC Berlin to improve to 8-0 on the season. Kreklow was a sub in all sets except the second. Jackson did not suit for the contest. Bartsch scored a team-leading 16 points. Dresdner takes on Thuringen on Dec. 13 in the next Bundesliga match. In the CEV Champions League, Dresdner will put its 2-0 record on the line on Dec. 10 in facing Italy’s Unendo Yamamay Busto Arisizio. ROBINSON WITH BAIC MOTORS BEIJING: Kelsey Robinson (Bartlett, Ill., Twitter, Instagram) is competing for Beijing BAIC Motors in the Chinese League. BAIC Motors won its third straight match with a 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 victory over Sichuan on Dec. 2. Robinson scored a team-best 11 points, all on kills from 26 total attacks. In its second Chinese League match of the week, BAIC Motors downed Bohai Bank Tianjin 23-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 on Dec. 6. Due to an injury to the starting libero, Robinson shifted from her outside hitter role to libero for the match. She tallied 16 excellent receptions without an error on 24 total chances and four digs.

FAWCETT WITH KOREA EXPRESSWAY: Nicole Fawcett (Zanesfield, Ohio, Instagram) is playing in the Korea V-League with Korea Expressway this winter. Korea Expressway dropped a 25-22, 25-21, 25-18 match to Hyundai on Dec. 3. Fawcett scored 21 points in the loss with 17 kills on 42 attacks and four blocks. Korea Expressway lost to IBK 25-23, 25-17, 25-13 on Dec. 6 after winning the most recent meeting in five sets on Nov. 27. Fawcett tallied 12 kills on 40 attacks for 12 of her points. American Destinee Hooker led all scoring with 20 points for IBK.

WEBSTER WITH PRAIA CLUBE: Bailey Webster (Baltimore, Md.) is competing for Praia Clube in the Brazilian Superliga this winter. Praia Clube lost to Pinheiros 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-8 on Dec. 2 as Webster was a sub in the second and fourth sets.
