Hyden, Bourne Fall in Quarterfinals at Klagenfurt

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 2, 2014) –After winning their first match of the day, the U.S. beach team of John Hyden and Tri Bourne finished tied for fifth at the  FIVB A1 Klagenfurt Grand Slam on Saturday.

Hyden (Pensacola, Fla.) and Bourne (Aiea, Hawaii) defeated Chili’s No. 28-seeded team of Esteban Grimalt and Marco Grimalt, 21-17, 23-21, in the first match on Saturday, but lost to No. 7 Paolo Nicolai and Daniele Lupo of Italy, 11-21, 21-14, 15-11 in the quarterfinals.

The U.S. tandem of Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Casey Patterson (Van Nuys, Calif.) lost in the round of 16 to Latvia’s No. 4  Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins, 21-19, 21-15 and finished tied for ninth.

On the women’s side, Brazil swept the podium at Klagenfurt. Larissa Franca and Talita Da Rocha defeated silver-medal winners Maria Antonelli and Juliana Da Silva, 22-20, 21-19 to win gold, while Agatha Bednarczuk and Barbara Seixas won bronze earlier in the day.
