U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.), libero Alfee Reft (Oxnard, Calif.) and Montpellier defeated Beauvais, 25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24 on Feb. 22. Complete statistics are not available.

Cannes, the French league team of U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles), defeated Toulouse, including U.S. opposite Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.), 25-22, 25-20, 29-27 on Feb. 23. Rawson scored eight points on six attacks (60.0 kill percent, .600 hitting efficiency) and two blocks. Tarr did not play in the match due to an injury. Patak scored 11 points on 10 attacks and one block. Hein added five points on four kills and one block.

U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and the French league team Tours continue to lead the league after a 25-21, 25-17, 25-22 victory over Paris on Feb. 23. Smith scored four points on two attacks and two blocks.

In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) defeated Harnes, 25-23, 25-20, 25-22 on Feb. 22. Vance scored 16 points on 15 kills and one block. He was credited with eight receptions, 88 percent positive. Scott added seven points on six attacks and one ace. He was credited with 35 receptions, 83 percent positive. Watten was credited with 13 receptions, 85 percent positive.


Poland’s Plus Liga is now in the playoffs and both teams with U.S. players are trying to get through the first round.

U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Jastrzębski Węgiel are now tied 2-2 with Effector Kielce after losing two matches in Kielce. On Feb. 24, Węgiel fell to Kielce, 25-23, 13-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-12. Holmes scored five points on three attacks, one block and one ace. On Feb. 25, Kielce beat Węgiel, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18. Holmes started the first two sets and did not score. The two teams will play the fifth and deciding match on March 2 in Węgiel.

U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Polish league team Asseco Resovia Rzeszów are also tied 2-2 in the first round of the playoffs after losing two straight matches to PGE Skra Bełchatów in Bełchatów. On Feb. 24, Bełchatów defeated Resovia Rzeszów, 21-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-13. Lotman scored six points on four kills and two blocks. He was credited with 29 receptions, 45 percent positive. To view photos from the match, click here. On Feb. 25, Bełchatów beat Resovia Rzeszów, 25-17, 25-27, 25-23, 25-21. Lotman scored three points on three attacks and was credited with 25 receptions, 36 percent positive. The two teams will play the fifth and deciding match on March 2 in Resovia Rzeszów.


U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, and Halkbank Ankara defeated Gümüşhane Torul Gençlik, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 on Feb. 20.

U.S. opposite Brook Billings (Santa Barbara, Calif.), a 2004 Olympian, and Istanbul BBSK defeated Yenisehir Belediye Spor, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 25-14 on Feb. 23. Billings led all scorers with 17 points on 15 attacks (57.7 kill percent, .500 hitting efficiency) and two blocks.


U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and his Argentina league team Drean Bolívar defeated Olimpo de Bahia Blanca, 25-22, 25-17, 25-21 on Feb. 23. Suxho scored four points on four attacks. He set the team to a 60.2 kill percent and a .578 hitting efficiency.


U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, played for the winning team in the All-Star match on Feb. 23, which had Russian opposite Maxim Mikhaylov as its captain. Anderson scored 10 points in the match as Mikhaylov’s team defeated that of Russia’s Sergey Tetyukhin, 25-23, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20. To view photos from the preliminary competitions, click here. U.S. middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and his Italian league team Copra Elior Piacenza went 1-1 over the past week. On Feb. 20, Piacenza defeated U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Andreoli Latina, 25-19, 25-16, 25-21. Holt scored 11 points on five attacks (83.3 kill percent, .833 hitting efficiency), two blocks and four aces. Troy played as a substitute and scored six points on six attacks (75.0 kill percent, .750 hitting efficiency). On Feb. 24, Piacenza fell to Itas Diatec Trentino, 17-25, 25-18, 25-19, 19-25, 15-12. Holt scored four points on three attacks and one block.

On Feb. 23, Latina fell to BCC-NEP Castellana Grotte, 30-28, 28-26, 25-22. Troy played as a substitute and scored six points on five attacks (71.4 kill percent, .714 hitting efficiency) and one block. U.S. outside hitter Jeff Menzel (Santa Barbara, Calif.) is on the roster for Castellana Grotte but did not play in the match.

In Italy’s Serie A2 league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona fell to Gherardi SVI Città di Castello, 25-27, 25-14, 27-25, 25-17 on Feb. 24. Muagututia finished with 19 points on 16 kills, two blocks and one ace.


In the Champions League semifinal, Matt Anderson along with U.S. middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.), a 2008 and 2012 Olympian, will play fellow Russian Super League team Lokomotiv Novosibirsk in the semifinals, which will be played on March 16 in Omsk, Russia. Italy’s Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo will play Poland’s Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle in the other semifinal.

Reid Priddy and Halkbank Ankara will face Murphy Troy and Italy’s Andreoli Latina in the final of the CEV Cup. The teams will play on Feb. 27 in Italy and on March 3 in Turkey.

Max Holt and Copra Elior Piacenza of Italy will play Dukla Liberec of Czech Republic in the semifinals of the CEV Challenge Cup. The first match will be in Italy on Feb. 27. The second match will be in Czech Republic on March 2. Russia’s Ural Ufa will play Poland’s Delecta Bydgoszcz in the other semifinal.
