U.S. outside hitter Matt Anderson (West Seneca, N.Y.), a 2012 Olympian, helped his Russian Super League team Zenit Kazan win two matches in the last week. On Jan. 30, Kazan defeated Gazprom Yurga Surgut, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14. Anderson scored 14 points on 11 kills (68.8 kill percent, .688 hitting efficiency), one block and two aces. With the victory, Kazan won the “National Treasure” trophy. To view photos from the match, click here. On Feb. 2, Kazan lost to Dinamo Krasnodar, 17-25, 25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 15-12. Anderson scored 14 points on 13 kills and one block. He was also credited with 30 receptions, 40 percent positive. Kazan leads the league with a 15-2 record. Anderson has also been voted into a pool of players from which participants in the all-star match will be selected.


Ron Larsen, who was an assistant coach for the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Men’s Olympic teams, will serve as assistant coach for the Loyola Marymount women’s volleyball team under Lions Head Coach Tom Black. USA Volleyball has released an updated list of international transfer certificates processed allowing for United States citizens to compete in leagues overseas.

A total of 279 transfers have been finalized by USA Volleyball with the breakdown being 99 male athletes and 180 female athletes. Additional transfers are expected to be finalized in the near future. To view the list, click here.

U.S. setter Kevin Hansen (Newport Beach, Calif.), a 2008 Olympian, and Arkas Izmir Spor defeated Fenerbahce Grundig, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21 on Feb. 2. Hansen scored one point with a block and set his team to a 51.6 kill percent and a .411 hitting efficiency.

U.S. opposite Brook Billings (Santa Barbara, Calif.), a 2004 Olympian, and Istanbul BBSK defeated M Milli Piyango, 22-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-16, 15-3 on Feb. 2. Billings led all scorers with 25 points on 23 attacks (53.5 kill percent, .395 hitting efficiency) and two blocks.

U.S. outside hitter Reid Priddy (Richmond, Va.), a 2004, ’08 and ’12 Olympian, and his Turkish league team Halkbank Ankara defeated Bursa Yenisehir Bld. S., 25-13, 25-19, 25-19 on Feb. 2. Priddy started the first two sets and scored 11 points on six kills (75.0 kill percent. .750 hitting efficiency), one block and a match-high four aces. Arkas Spor leads the league with a 14-1 record. Halkbank is in second at 11-4 and Istanbul BBSK is in third, also at 11-4.


U.S. outside hitter Paul Lotman (Lakewood, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and his Polish league team Asseco Resovia Rzeszow defeated AZS Politechnika Warszawska, 23-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-21 on Feb. 1. Lotman scored 10 points on seven attacks, two blocks and one ace. He was credited with 15 receptions, 47 percent positive.

U.S. middle blocker Russell Holmes (Fountain Valley, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and Jastrzębski Węgiel fell to Delecta Bydgoszcz, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22, 16-25, 15-10 on Feb. 2. Holmes finished with eight points on four attacks, three blocks and one ace. To view a photo gallery, click here. Jastrzębski Węgiel is in third place in the league at 12-5. Asseco Resovia Rzeszow is in fourth with an 11-6 record. The final matches of the PlusLiga regular season will be played Feb. 8-11.


U.S. setter Donald Suxho (Korce, Albania), a 2004 and ’12 Olympian, and his Argentina league team Drean Bolívar went 2-0 last week. On Jan. 31, Bolívar beat La Union de Formosa, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 25-23. Suxho scored five points on three kills, one block and one ace. He set his team to a 46.8 kill percent and a .414 hitting efficiency. On Feb. 2, Bolívar beat Sarmiento Santana Textiles, 25-21, 25-23, 25-22. Suxho scored one points with an attack and set his team to a 54.1 kill percent and a .459 hitting efficiency. Bolívar is in second place in the league with a 14-3 record.


U.S. setter Kawika Shoji (Honolulu, Hawaii) and his German league team the Berlin Recycling Volleys defeated VCO Berlin, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19 on Jan. 30. Shoji scored one point with a block and set his team to a 45.9 kill percent and a .339 hitting efficiency. Scott Touzinsky (St. Louis, Mo.), a 2008 Olympian, also plays for the Berlin Recycling Volleys but is rehabilitating from knee surgery. The Recycling Volleys lead the league.


U.S. middle blocker David Smith (Saugus, Calif.), a 2012 Olympian, and the French league team Tours defeated Tourcoing, 21-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 on Feb. 2. Smith scored eight points on four attacks (50.0 kill percent, .500 hitting efficiency), two blocks and two aces.

U.S. outside hitter Robert Tarr (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) and middle blocker Matt Rawson (Los Angeles) and their French league team Cannes fell to Rennes, 25-15, 25-21, 26-28, 25-21 on Feb. 2. Tarr scored 10 points on 10 attacks. Rawson did not play in the match.

U.S. opposite Carson Clark (Santa Barbara, Calif.), libero Alfee Reft (Oxnard, Calif.) and their French league team Montpellier fell to Sete, 23-25, 22-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-11 on Feb. 2. Clark led his team with 20 points on 20 attacks. Reft was credited with 33 receptions, 58 percent positive.

The French league team Toulouse, including U.S. opposite Evan Patak (Pleasanton, Calif.) and middle blocker Andy Hein (Carol Stream, Ill.), fell to Narbonne, 25-20, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20 on Feb. 2. Patak led his team with 18 points on 15 attacks, two blocks and one ace. Hein added 10 points on seven kills and a team-high three blocks.

In France’s B league, AS Orange Nassau, including U.S. libero Dustin Watten (Long Beach, Calif.) and outside hitters Damien Scott (Santa Ana, Calif.) and Eric Vance (Camarillo, Calif.) fell to St-Brieuc, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 on Feb. 1. Vance scored 11 points on 10 attacks and one block. He was credited with seven receptions, 43 percent positive. Scott added 10 points on eight attacks (50.0 kill percent, .500 hitting efficiency). He was credited with 35 receptions, 89 percent positive. Watten was credited with 16 receptions, 100 percent positive.


U.S. middle blocker Max Holt (Cincinnati, Ohio) and his Italian league team Copra Alior Piacenza defeated Bre Banca Lannutti Cuneo, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18 on Feb. 3. Holt scored 12 points on four kills, a match-high six blocks and two aces.

U.S. opposite Murphy Troy (St. Louis, Mo.) and Andreoli Latina fell to Itas Diatec Trentino, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19 on Feb. 2. Troy played as a substitute and scored two points on one kill and one ace.

In Italy’s Serie A2 league, U.S. outside hitter Garrett Muagututia (Oceanside, Calif.) and Sieco Service Ortona defeated Coserplast Matera, 25-18, 27-25, 25-22 on Feb. 3. Muagututia scored 13 points on 13 attacks (56.5 kill percent, .565 hitting efficiency). He was also credited with 33 receptions, 45 percent positive.


Kevin Hansen and Arkas Izmir Spor have advanced to the six-team playoff of the Champions League. They will face Poland’s Zaksa Kedzierzyn-Kozle on Feb. 5 in Poland and on Feb. 12 in Turkey.

Russia’s Zenit Kazan, which includes U.S. middle blocker David Lee (Alpine, Calif.), a 2008 and 2012 Olympian, and Matt Anderson, will play Russian Super League rival Dinamo Moscow in the six-team playoff. The teams will play on Feb. 6 in Kazan and on Feb. 13 in Moscow.

Reid Priddy and Halkbank Ankara have advanced to the semifinals of the CEV Cup where they will play Russia’s Lokomotiv Kharkiv on Feb. 6 in Turkey and on Feb. 13 in Russia.

Murphy Troy and Italy’s Andreoli Latina will also play in the semifinals against Turkey’s Maliye Milli Piyango Ankara. The teams will play in Turkey on Feb. 6 and in Italy on Feb. 13.


Max Holt and Copra Elior Piacenza advanced to the quarterfinals of the CEV Challenge Cup. It will travel to play Stroitel Minsk of Belarus on Feb. 6 and host the team on Feb. 13.
