High Performance Championships Wraps Up in Des Moines

DES MOINES, IOWA (July 28, 2012)— The 2012 USA Volleyball High Performance Championship (HPC) concluded play on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ninety-eight teams competed in one of seven divisions: Women’s International Junior, Boys’ International, Girls’ International Youth, Girls’ National Youth, Girls’ National Select, Boys’ National and Boys’ Regional. Each division crowned one team champion after play concluded on Saturday night.

The Women’s International Junior Division was won by the USA Women’s Junior National Training Team after they defeated the Dominican Republic Youth National Team 21-15, 24-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-19. Third place in the division went to the USA Girls’ Youth National Team who defeated the USA Women’s Junior National Training Team 25-10, 25-19, 25-10 in the bronze match.

The Boys’ International Youth Division was won by Chile Boys’ Team 25-20, 25-16, 25-16 over the USA Boys’ Youth A2 White Team. Puerto Rico took the bronze medal after defeating the USA Boys’ Youth A2 Gold Team 20-25, 28-26, 25-18, 22-25, 15-17.

Girls’ International Youth Division was won by Badger Region Girls’ Team, who defeated the Iowa Region Youth Team 30-28, 15-14, 15-21 to claim gold. Third place went to USA Girls’ Select A1 Red, who defeated Team Florida High Performance 25-15, 26-24, 25-19.

Girls’ National Youth Division crowned the Iowa National Youth Team champions after they defeated the Chesapeake Region Youth Team 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 in the finals. The Sun Region Volleyball Association Youth Team defeated the Garden Empire Region Youth Team 25-16, 25-17, 25-19 to claim third place.

 The Iowa Girls’ Select White Team defeated Southern California Select 25-21, 25-20, 25-27, 25-18 to claim first place in the Girls’ National Select Division. Third place went to Team Florida High Performance after they defeated the Aloha Region Girls’ Select Team 23-25, 25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 15-10 in the bronze-medal match.

The Boys’ National Division crowned Puerto Rico champions after they defeated the Northern California Youth Boys’ Team 19-25, 25-27, 25-17, 25-17, 15-8. The USA Boys’ Youth Continental White team earned a come-back victory over the Aloha Region Team 25-27, 22-25, 25-18, 25-18, 15-11 to finish in third place.

The Iowa High Performance Team defeated the USA Boys’ Select Continental Red Team in straight sets 25-15, 25-19, 25-18 in the Boys’ Regional Division to earn gold.
