CAP III

Open to all CAP Level II accredited coaches of all coaching and teaching levels and experience. This course is only offered once or twice a year. CAP III is offered in only one format: onsite at a specified facility with live cadre instructors. On-court and classroom sessions provide an opportunity for hands-on learning. The emphasis of CAP Level III is unique to the specific course. The program content is individually developed based on the USAV cadre teaching the course, demand for topic information, and the most recent, advanced information for higher level volleyball coaches. 

National Onsite Courses

Schedule: CAP III courses are typically only offered once or twice a year. Check the USAV Coaching Education Event Schedule for the next available onsite CAP III course.

Instructors: Varied. Onsite courses are instructed live. All USAV Cadre instructors are CAP III certified, background screened, current USAV members, and have years of coaching experience from high school to collegiate to the USA national team!

Course Length: CAP III courses are typically only offered once or twice a year. Approximately 28-30 hours total in a three or four day classroom and on court presentation format.

Cost: Varied. Price range is subject to change based on specific course options. This is a guideline only. Generally, course fees begin at about $285-350 per person; accommodations and meals may be offered at the U.S. Olympic Training Center as a packaged price, if space is available.

Course Exam and Certification Requirements: Coaches will be required to design, write, implement and evaluate a CAP III Outreach Project. CAP III coaches are given 12 months to complete the project, evaluate and submit final documentation. Coaches should bring ideas for their project to the CAP III course for discussion and approval. Coaches are also required to bring a CD/DVD/jump drive of themselves coaching a practice and/or match for self/peer/Cadre critiques. Additionally, a written post-course exam, complete with questions and answers, must be submitted. Certification requirements include submission of the following.   1. CAP III Coaches Favorite Drill Form (submit prior to arrival via email)
  2. Background Screening Form (not applicable if coach is current)
  3. Outreach Project First Draft Proposal (submit onsite at CAP III course)
  4. Outreach Project Final Draft (submit via email within 30 days after course)
  5. Outreach Project Final Draft - Completed, Evaluated (submit via email within 12 months after course)
  6. CAP III Final Exam (submit via email within 12 months after course)

Prior to registering for a CAP IV course, CAP III coaches must have coached at least one season at their current certification level. CAP IV course curriculum is currently under development.

Materials included: The CAP III course will include a course notebook with presentations on paper and CD/DVD. Additional materials include CAP III drawstring bag, T-shirt, pen, and various other goodies!

Certification Expiration and Re-certification: After attending a CAP III course, coaches have 12 months to finish the requirements and achieve their certification. Certification is valid for four years and will expire on a coach’s certification date four years later.   • Attend another full CAP III on-site course
  • Attend six other approved onsite CAP III recert modules (CAP Module Clinic, another coaching ed clinic)
  • Attend six other approved online CAP III recert modules (Click here for a list of approved online modules.)
  • Attend a CAP IV course (curriculum currently under development) and become CAP IV certified by completing all requirements within 12 months
  • Attend an IMPACT tnstructor training course for three module credits
  • Teach up to three regional onsite IMPACT clinics per quad (four years)
