Dr. Jenny D. Johnson

Dr. Jenny D. Johnson is an elite athlete development specialist working with curriculum assessment and design of National Governing Bodies' High Performance Pipelines to discover and develop the next generation of Olympians. She is a Beach CAP Level II coach and has assisted with USA Volleyball Beach High Performance Selection Camps since 2013. Currently, she is the club director for (SC)2 Volleyball in Tabor City, N.C., working with both indoor and beach athletes.

Johnson began her volleyball career watching her father, an Olympic-level race walker, coach indoor volleyball at Liberty University. She participated in three sports in high school: volleyball, basketball and track. She continued her indoor volleyball career at the University of North Carolina, Greensboro, as a six-rotation middle blocker where she graduated in 1995 with a recreation management degree after being voted by her teammates as captain both her junior and senior years.

After 10 years of career and family building, Johnson earned her degree in exercise science and health promotion from California University of Pennsylvania in 2005. During that time, she participated in fitness competitions, taught aerobics and was a personal trainer. She was even was featured in fitness/bodybuilding magazines as a writer, model and supplement spokesperson.

Her post-master's adventures included owning and operating her own personal training business, working in cardiac rehab, running a local resort campground, teaching part time at a local community college, teaching for the American Public University System, and volunteer coaching. She has been teaching with APUS since 2009 and joined APUS full time in January,2011.

Johnson received her Ph.D. in education from Northcentral University with a focus on curriculum and teaching. Her research involves the organic self-raising process of elite athletes, athlete development, and high performance curriculum assessment.
