Race Director General Liability Event Policy

USAT provides comprehensive liability insurance coverage to sanctioned events. The USA Triathlon policy automatically covers USA Triathlon race directors, sponsors, volunteers, officials, and participants while participating in sanctioned events.

Additional insureds beyond race directors, sponsors, volunteers, officials, and participants can be added sparingly and only if required by contract. Not all individuals/groups may qualify for additional insured status and an issuance of an insurance certificate does not guarantee coverage for the party requesting coverage. There is a fee for each of these outside groups that are added as additional insured.

Certificates are issued upon request via the sanction system process and must be requested prior to the date of the event.

There are two types of certificates that are issued under the general liability policy.

CLASS 1: Named Insured (no extra cost) – individuals already named on the policy (see above) who need proof of their coverage:

  • Race Director
  • Race Organizing Committee/Company/Club
  • Sponsors

CLASS 2: Additional Insured (See fee structure below):

  • Property Owner
  • Facility
  • Government Entity (excludes police and medical personnel)
  • Venue
  • Others as Required by Contract

Remember to ask if an entity needs to be listed as an additional insured before submitting the sanction application. Coverage limits are shared with every additional insured added to the event!

Fee Structure for Additional Insured

  • Class 1 Named Insured: FREE!
        - $25 each on top of your sanctioning fee if requested within a week of your event date

  • Class 2 Additional Insured: 
        - $10 each on top of your sanctioning fee
        - $25 each on top of your sanctioning fee if requested within a week of your event date

We cannot guarantee that requests made within 72 hours or less before your event will be processed in time.
