The Level II Short Course Clinic is designed to prepare coaches to work with developing elite and junior ITU level athletes. The course focuses on specific ITU style race requirements for athletes and covers performance based nutrition, mental skills, key components of training plans and specific workouts in all three disciplines as well as recovery techniques, ITU and World Ranking points systems and much more. This multiday clinic requires coaches to demonstrate hands-on coaching skills, ATP presentation knowledge and a high level of comprehension of high performance short course race preparation and execution.

APRIL 2020 UPDATE: This Level II Short Course Clinic provides the unique opportunity to also receive your USA Cycling Level II Coaching Certification! On Sunday, April 5th, in partnership with USA Cycling, we will be hosting a Bike Skills Clinic. If you attend the Bike Skills Clinic, as well as the USA Triathlon Level II Short Course Clinic, you will earn both your USA Cycling Level II Certification AND your USA Triathlon Level II Short Course Certification (Note: a USAC Level III Certification is required prior to attending this clinic). More details on the USAC Certifications can be found here. The attendance fee for both certification clinics is $800 (worth $1149). 

You will be able to register for the Bike Skills Clinic when accepted to the USAT Level II Clinic. *Note: you are required to bring a bike for the Bike Skills Clinic on Sunday (April 5).

We are excited to announce that this Level II Short Course Clinic will be held simultaneously with the Level II Long Course Clinic. Incorporated in these clinics will be both combined and separate lectures. We believe that this will benefit all parties and will enhance the networking opportunities between attendees. The USAT Level II Short Course Clinic attendance fee is $650 (note: this does not include food, lodging, travel expenses or the background check fee). You can choose to board and eat at the Olympic & Paralympic Training Center for an additional fee.

Level II Short Course Coach Applicant Requirements

Prior to certification, each candidate must complete and/or submit the following:

Level II Short Course Clinic Procedures

There is a checklist that is used to score each candidate on their final presentation. Candidates are required to score a minimum of 80% to be eligible for Level II Short Course Certification additional to passing the exam with a minimum score of 80%.

If a candidate does not meet the above criteria, the following occurs:

  • The candidate has failed the course.
  • USAT Coaching Education Staff discusses the areas that the candidate needs to improve.
  • USAT Coaching Education Staff recommends webinars, books, CEUs and other areas that can help improve the candidates skills.
  • USAT Coaching Education Staff recommends that the candidate attend the Elite Mentorship Program prior to applying for a future Level II Clinic.

Clinic Cancellation Policy

Cancellation on registration day to 8 weeks prior to the first day of the clinic: $25 Penalty
Cancellation on or after 8 weeks prior to the first day of the clinic: $50 Penalty
Cancellation on or after 6 weeks prior to the first day of the clinic: $150 Penalty
Cancellation on or after 4 weeks prior to the first day of the clinic: NO REFUNDS AND NO EXCEPTIONS

Level II Short Course Recertification Procedure

Certified coaches must recertify every two years to remain informed on the latest information and expertise within triathlon. This process helps coaches continue to challenge themselves and further their knowledge to best serve their athletes. The recertification program also provides support to help cultivate the growing sport of triathlon, as well as USA Triathlon coaching programs. USA Triathlon’s recertification process consists of meeting specified criteria as well as submitting an online recertification application.

In order to recertify as a Level II Short Course Certified Coach, coaches must complete:

  • $95 Recertification Fee
  • Online Background Check 
  • Current USA Triathlon Annual Membership
  • USOPC SafeSport Refresher Program 
  • Service to the Sport Documentation
  • 20 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) - 5 CEUs must be USAT Approved
  • CPR (initial CPR certification must be completed in-person but CPR recertification can be completed online or in-person)
  • Signed Ethics Code Agreement
