General Liability Coverage
USA Triathlon highly recommends all USA Triathlon clubs purchase the club insurance policies. The General Liability (GL) and Participant Accident policy covers your club members during club calendared activities. Whether you have a morning run, weekend bike ride or meeting, your members can be covered in the event of injury during these activities. The new policy period runs Jan. 1-Dec. 31, 2023.
IOA is pleased to offer official USA Triathlon clubs the opportunity to purchase, request and retrieve certificates of insurance. In addition, we have included other useful tools relating to policy information, claims handling and risk management.

When you register for your insurance, please provide the number of club members you believe your total club membership will be during 2022. The number of members you provide for your club are covered from day one with insurance. Through the club profile, you will also upload a club roster which is required for club insurance coverage. This roster should be updated as the club grows to be sure the club has the appropriate insurance coverage for the number of athletes. It is best to update the club roster at least bimonthly to ensure accuracy.
From there, we ask that you make best efforts to share the benefits of USA Triathlon annual membership with your club members who are not current USAT annual members. This includes informing those who have purchased 1-day memberships that they can apply that to an annual membership (or if they have 3, they can apply them all and get an annual for $5!).
Our hope is that you, as the club leader, help to inform them of the benefits of an annual membership so when they do get to racing they choose an annual over a one-day license.
Directors and Officers Coverage
Important Message: USA Triathlon recommends you explore securing Directors' & Officers' Liability for your individual Club. This coverage is often confused with General Liability or Business Liability Insurance, in spite of the coverage differences between the two policies.
This important coverage is not the same as General Liability as it does not include coverage for bodily injury claims. D&O insurance protects club directors & officers from personal liability associated with their wrongful acts, and omissions in the performance of duties for the Club. Typical D&O claims often allege mismanagement of funds and negligent decisions affecting club members, participants, coaches, officials and others. The policy also provides Employment Practices Liability (EPL) coverage for claims alleging harassment, discrimination or wrongful termination.
