Welcome to your guide to youth and junior triathlon. Whether you’re a parent, coach or athlete, you’ll find the resources you need to be successful in multisport right here, including the latest training tips for kids, tools to find a coach, club or race and exclusive youth benefits and programs.

In 2016, USA Triathlon had nearly 40,000 annual youth members, age 17 and younger. Race directors across the country offered over 700 sanctioned races for youth. That’s a lot of athletes practicing healthy exercise habits that will last a lifetime, and a lot of opportunity to have fun racing. With a renewed focus on expanding outreach and engagement efforts to increase youth participation, USA Triathlon hopes to grow that number to 100,000 youth members by 2020.

Whether you’re just getting your start in multisport or have been racing in youth events for years, we wish you the best of luck on your multisport journey. Can’t find what you’re looking for? Email Youth Program Manager Meg Duncan at meg.duncan@usatriathlon.org

Youth Event Support

USA Triathlon is offering a new youth event incentive program for 2018. Race directors are eligible for support for one event and it must be a unique youth event (not created under a different sanction name/previous event location) hosted for the first time in 2018. Also, race directors are eligible for support for up to 200 new youth participants, at $5 per participant. A maximum of 10 sanctioned youth events can be supported and the goal is to support events in all six of the regions.  Reminder: this is available for new sanctioned youth events only (clinics and adult events are not eligible). Please contact Meg Duncan, Youth Program Manager, at meg.duncan@usatriathlon.org with questions. Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2018.

USA Triathlon Camp Curriculum

The USA Triathlon’s Splash, Spin, Sprint Camp Manual is the culmination of over 10 years of work through the collaborative efforts of USA Triathlon, Alive with Mission Me, experienced triathlon and multisport athletes, triathlon coaches, and recognized scholars in health, recreation, and physical education. This manual was a call to action to address the continued health problems related to physical inactivity and obesity among children and youth.

Through research and collaboration with scholars in health, recreation, and physical education, USA Triathlon identified a need for multisport curriculum that could help support sport-camps and non-sport camps (with sport offerings) with a multisport based camp manual that is easy to follow and use. Throughout the Splash, Spin, Sprint camp manual you will find several sections that help you learn and incorporate multisport programming or enhance your current programs at your camp. USAT believes that when combined with the camp experience, the Splash, Spin, Sprint program can help enrich the lives of children, youth, and adults.

A physical kit is also available that goes with the activities found in the manual. Items include a trunk, tennis balls, cones, frisbees, and essential items found in the activities in the manual. For more information on how to purchase the manual and the kit, please contact Meg Duncan, Youth Program Manager.
