Jacqui Barber
About Jacqui:
After a number of years as a competitive swimmer and starting the "adult" chapter of my life, I was looking for a place to focus my competitive juices. A friend asked me if I wanted to "try" a triathlon; little did we know she was providing me an outlet for that competitive spirit and giving me a new athletic purpose after swimming. That first triathlon was 1998 and I have been doing triathlons ever since. My main focus has been the sprint and Olympic distances with a few 70.3's thrown in for fun. I like to remind people that you don't have to do an Ironman to be a triathlete and it does not matter how fast you go as long as you do your best.
Sport Discipline:
Triathlon, Swimming, Running
Most memorable moment in your multisport career:
I will never forget my very first triathlon. As a swimmer in college, I came out of the water first, hopped on my steel mountain bike and pedaled my legs off. On the bike course I got passed by a LOT of people. Everyone who passed me told me to keep up the great work, nice job, etc. I was also passed by a gentleman 81 years young on the run course who told me I was doing a great job (He was 81 and I was 22!). When I finished the race, I told my parents that everyone in the sport was so nice and friendly and I loved it!
