Carrie Barrett

About Carrie: Carrie Barrett is a self-proclaimed, reluctant triathlete. She completed her first triathlon, The Danskin Tri, in 2002, on a whim. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that her results reflected this. Still, though, when you invest a few thousand dollars on an unknown sport, what do you do? You sign up for more races, of course! That was 17 years ago and she's now fully invested.

She's been a USAT-certified coach since 2010 and has managed and coached teams in the Austin area. She's also a freelance writer with published work at Austin Fit Magazine, Ironman.com and Active.com. Barrett is also a podcast host and producer. She hosts her own, "I Could Never Do That" podcast and produces "The Purple Patch Podcast," hosted by elite triathlon coach, Matt Dixon. Much of her work can be found at tritobefunny.com.

Most memorable moment in your multisport career: My first IRONMAN will always be memorable because my parents were able to be there to watch and witness. They didn't have a clue what a long day of Iron-spectating involved, but they loved every minute of it.

I also cherish the day when I got to run with Austin athlete, Kayleigh Williamson, who, in 2017, became the first woman with Down Syndrome to complete the Austin Half Marathon. Her joy reignited my passion to learn and teach. She was a gift for me that day.
