Topic: A Systematic Approach to Performance Planning and Analysis

The objective of this course is to give attendees the opportunity to systematically integrate the knowledge and experiences they have gained as a professional coach into developing more relevant, comprehensive, and advanced performance plans for athletes of all ages, experiences, and specialties. Coaches will be introduced to more advanced planning strategies and will have the opportunity to implement new skills during in-session practical exercises.

The course is open to all USA Triathlon certified coaches, athletes and general public and will consist of the following modules;

  • Competitive Analysis - Understanding the Competitive Landscape
  • Developing a Deterministic Model of Performance - Identifying Critical Success Factors
  • Performance Benchmarking - Integrating Performance Testing and Standards
  • Practical Planning Exercises - Planning for Long Term Athletic Development

The course will be 6 hours in duration and will include lectures, discussions, and practical exercises and a one hour break for lunch.

The course will be lead by John Crawley, MS, from the Sport Performance Division of United States Olympic Committee. He holds a Level III Elite Coaching Certification from USA Triathlon, a Level II Endurance Coaching Certification from USA Track and Field, as well as a Level II Coaching Certification from USA Cycling.

Topic: Weight Loss for Endurance Athletes

This 4-hour workshop will provide endurance athletes realistic weight loss methods that can be easily applied to real life while ensuring a high degree of success in losing weight and keeping it off. The complex nature of weight loss will be presented in simple and easy to follow plans for all types and abilities of endurance athlete ranging from the novice to the elite. This clinic will feature Bob Seebohar, MS, RD, CSSD, CSCS, USAT Level III Certified Coach.

Understand the concept of nutrition periodization and when the timing of weight loss is preferred during an athlete's training year. Understand and apply the energy balance equation to develop quantitative weight loss plans. Understand and apply qualitative fueling strategies, including nutrient timing, to develop qualitative weight loss plans. Understand the psychological component of weight loss and choose which method is appropriate for athletes. 

About Bob Seebohar
Bob Seebohar, formerly a Sport Dietitian for the U.S. Olympic Committee and the 2008 Olympic Triathlon Sport Dietitian is a USA Triathlon Certified Level III Elite Coach and owner of Fuel4mance, which provides sports nutrition services to endurance athletes. Bob has an undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science and two graduate degrees: one in Health and Exercise Science and the other in Food Science and Human Nutrition.

This course is the first step in a well-planned learning agenda that prepares coaches to become capable of making astute personal economic decisions. This course will introduce coaches to the environment in which business is transacted in modern times by presenting an overview of functional areas of business and the basic concepts of the business world. This course emphasizes an integrated approach that provides opportunities for study of the synergy among business functions.

Identify current business trends both locally and nationally. • Explain how proper business management/insurance benefits the coach and the athletes • Analyze and explain the basis your company. • Compare and contrast the different types of business ownership. • Evaluate and classify various marketing strategies. • Explain the marketing process and how it drives business activities. • Verbalize both oral and in writing how technology can help a business manage information. • To understand the challenges, risks, and opportunities of coaching business • Explain how firms use accounting/taxes • Analyze sources of financing for businesses. • Appropriate equipment and resources for coaches.

About Hector Torres
Hector L Torres is a USAT Level 2 Coach, USAC Cycling Lv 2, USA Swimming and USA Track and Field. In addition, Hector has a Master in Sports and Fitness with a concentration Sport Leadership and Coaching from the University of Central Florida. He is also the USAT Florida Region Chair. Hector has been coaching for four years and building a strong community within the Central Florida area.
