Article 5.1 — Propulsion requires that bicycles must only be powered by human force. The rule prevents the use of power assisted devices such as battery- or combustion-powered motors. It also prevents the use of bikes that have hand power mechanisms such as a rowing-bike.
Here's the rule:
All bicycles shall be propelled only by human force and human power. Other than pushing a bicycle, any propulsive action brought on by use of the hands is prohibited. Any violation of this section shall result in disqualification.
