New Qualification Rules for Junior Elite Nationals

With registration opening today for the 2010 USAT Junior Olympic Festival, I wanted to call to your attention new qualification rules for athletes seeking to participate in the Junior Elite National Championship, which is part of this festival weekend.

The new eligibility criteria affects only Junior Elite athletes, meaning those in the 16 to 19 age division. There are no qualification requirements for Youth Elite (13-15 year old draft-legal) or Youth (7-15) athletes.

The new eligibility criteria for the Junior Elites was necessitated by the fact that our 2009 Junior Elite men's race reached the field capacity of 80 athletes for the first time in USAT history.  The new standards ensure a quality of field consistent with the event's national championship status and an appropriate level of preparedness for participation in draft-legal competition.
