Major League Triathlon Charlotte

They call themselves the “dream team”, so it was fitting that the Carolina Gliders had a dream ending to their season. In the final race of the Major League Triathlon (MLT) season on Saturday, the Mixed Relay team of Chelsea Burns, Tony Smoragiewicz, Lindsey Jerdonek and Ben Kanute finished with the fastest time in Charlotte to win the race and clinch the MLT Cup.

Each athlete completed the standard 300-meter swim, 4-mile bike and 1-mile run course before passing off to the next teammate. The Gliders finished with a total time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 32 seconds — 10 seconds ahead of the second-place Arizona Kingsnakes (Kirsten Kasper, Matt Sharpe, Sophie Linn and Tyler Mislawchuk). The San Diego Stingrays (Sophie Chase, Robby Webster, Taylor Spivey and Seth Rider) took third with a time of 1:07:45.

Charlotte was the last of four races in the 2018 MLT season series. Tommy Zaferes, Tamara Gorman and Kevin McDowell were also members of the champion Carolina Gliders in 2018.
