COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon today announced the dates for the second annual National Triathlon Week, a nationwide initiative to celebrate the sport of triathlon and all its constituency groups. The largely social-media-based campaign brings the multisport community together from July 16-22 — not only to swim, bike and run, but also to share experiences, advice and support.

The complete schedule, along with ideas on how to participate — some of which can take as little as five minutes — are available on the official landing page for National Triathlon Week: usatriathlon.org/triweek

The emphasis of the week is on celebration, education and participation in the multisport lifestyle. A different theme will be featured every day, starting with a spotlight on each discipline of triathlon:

Monday, July 16: Swim Day
Tuesday, July 17: Bike Day
Wednesday, July 18: Run Day
Thursday, July 19: Recovery Day
Friday, July 20: Member Appreciation Day
Saturday, July 21, and Sunday, July 22: Race Weekend

Individuals will be encouraged to participate in a variety of ways, from amateur and elite athletes sharing stories and photos on social media to certified coaches, officials and race directors offering their expertise. USA Triathlon will also suggest training activities that follow the day’s theme.

Prize packs will be awarded to select participants who share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #TriWeek, with one prize pack awarded for each day of the week. In addition, triathletes can enter a contest to win a USA Triathlon Lifetime Membership by emailing marketing@usatriathlon.org or posting on social using #TriWeek and #WhatsYourFinishLine with a description of how the sport of triathlon helped them reach their goals. All award winners will be announced on Monday, July 23.

The week culminates with Race Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, when first-timers and experienced triathletes alike are encouraged to complete a race, register for their next event or simply volunteer to staff an on-course aid station. The fourth weekend of July typically boasts one of the highest participation rates in multisport events across the country, with 177 USA Triathlon-sanctioned events including 62 youth races taking place on July 21 and 22.

During the first National Triathlon Week in 2017, social media posts about #TriWeek garnered more than 6 million impressions. USA Triathlon’s most engaging post of the week, which highlighted age-group Team USA athlete Sue Reynolds and her inspiring weight-loss journey, garnered 3,430 likes, 139 shares and 137 comments across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

“National Triathlon Week is an opportunity to not only celebrate the existing multisport community of athletes, clubs, coaches, race directors, officials and industry members, but also to inspire would-be triathletes to sign up for their first race,” said Rocky Harris, USA Triathlon CEO. “The inaugural #TriWeek in 2017 saw participation from thousands of experienced and aspiring multisport athletes, and we look forward to continuing that momentum in year two.”
