USA Triathlon Aquathlon National Championships

Led by overall champions Hunter Janus (Lexington, S.C.) and Makena Gates (Canton, Ga.), 27 athletes were crowned age-group national champions on Sunday at the USA Triathlon Aquathlon National Championships in Austin.

Women’s Collegiate West Regional Qualifier

The 2017 Women’s Collegiate season continued on Sept. 30 with the West Regional Qualifier in Berkeley, California. Charlotte Ahrens of Arizona State took first place overall with a time of 01:04:58, nearly one minute before her closest competitor. Jocelyn Bonney (Peak Multisport) and Hannah Grubbs (UCLA) rounded out the podium in second and third, respectively.

IRONMAN Taiwan 

U.S. elites Kevin Collington and Laurel Wassner earned double gold at IRONMAN Taiwan on Oct. 1. Collington raced to his first-ever IRONMAN victory with a lead of 12 minutes over second place. Marino Vanhoenacker of Belgium and Simon Cochrane of New Zealand placed second and third. Wassner exited the water with Charlotte Morel of France but dominated on the bike and run to finish with an impressive 46-minute lead over second place finisher Kate Bevilaqua of New Zealand. Morel finished third for the women.

I dreamed of this but wasn't sure it would happen. I worked very hard to prepare for this race and specifically to be very strong and resilient on the run. It paid off! I was told after the race that it reached 42c "real feel" - what?!? How did I run a marathon in that?? Also, I was 6th overall! Thank you to @athletefood for coaching me and @heppo160 for pushing me so hard on the bike in training and to both of them for having a 27 pound baby to push up a mountain for my runs! So much more to say but thank you all for following this journey. I fought back tears coming into the stadium thinking about all the s@*! that has brought me down and how I never stopped fighting. 👊👊 #yay #ironmantaiwan #champ #hotAF #sohot
