West Des Moines CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup and U23 National Championships
Taylor Knibb (Washington, D.C.) and Eli Hemming (Kiowa, Colo.) won the women’s and men’s races, respectively, at the West Des Moines CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Cup on Sunday, which also served as the USA Triathlon Under-23 National Championships. Knibb completed the 750-meter swim, 20-kilometer bike and 5-kilometer run in 1 hour, 43 seconds. Tamara Gorman (Rapid City, S.D.) crossed second in 1:01:26, and Dominika Jamnicky of Canada was third overall 1:01:38. Erika Ackerlund (Missoula, Mont.), placing fourth overall, took the third spot on the U23 Nationals podium in 1:02:17.
Eli Hemming (Kiowa, Colo.) won the men’s race in 56:18, with Tony Smoragiewicz (Rapid City, S.D.) eight seconds behind in 56:26. Canada’s Michael Lori rounded out the overall podium in 56:52. Tyson Wieland (Dallas Center, Iowa), was the third U23 athlete across the line in 59:04, placing 12th in the overall field.

The racing action on Sunday also included Youth Elite and Junior Elite Cups, which served as the final qualification events for the USA Triathlon Youth & Junior National Championships from Aug. 5-6 in West Chester, Ohio.

Boulder Peak Triathlon
Lindsey Jerdonek (Cleveland, Ohio) and Kaisa Sali (Helsinki, Colo.) recorded podium performances at the Boulder Peak Triathlon in Boulder, Colo., on Sunday. The elite non-drafting race covered a 1500m swim, 42k bike and 10k run course. Canadian Olympian Paula Findlay took the overall win with a time of 2:10:58, followed by Jerdonek, who currently lives and trains in Boulder, in 2:12:35. Sali took the third spot on the podium in 2:14:43.

In the men’s race, a trio of Boulder-based triathletes swept the podium on their home course. Cameron Dye took the overall win, with Rudy Von Berg a close second and Jason West completing the top-three.
