COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The 2017 schedule has been set for USA Triathlon’s Coaching Certification clinics, including nine Level I Certification courses and three Youth & Junior Certification courses.
USA Triathlon provides robust educational options for individuals looking to become more knowledgeable in triathlon and multisport coaching. Through USA Triathlon Coaching Certification clinics, attendees will learn more about the sport of triathlon, how to properly coach athletes, maintain a safe environment within the sport and network with fellow coaches. The Coaching Certification program begins with Level I certification, with the option to progress up to a Level III elite coach. The program also includes four specialty certifications: Youth & Junior; Youth & Junior Elite; Level II Endurance, which focuses on long-course racing; and Paratriathlon, a new curriculum which will launch in July 2017.
Aspiring coaches must start with the Level I Coaching Certification clinic. This two-day clinic will teach coaches to design training plans geared toward their athletes’ needs, as well as strength-specific training for triathletes and key workouts for swim, bike and run. The clinic also focuses on the mechanics of the three sports, with knowledge shared by some of USA Triathlon’s most esteemed coaches. Additional topics include nutrition periodization and mental skills, two vital aspects to master in the sport of triathlon.
Currently Certified Coaches may expand their skill set with the Youth & Junior Elite Certification courses, held in January and September, which will focus on junior elite and under-23 athletes. The newly relaunched Youth & Junior Certification course, held in April, is open to all USA Triathlon members (no prior certification needed) and will focus mostly on youth athletes.
