Patricia Walsh did her first triathlon because of a dare. As an avid runner, she had to learn to swim and improve her biking skills. The rest, as she says, is history. Now, Walsh spends seven days a week training a minimum of two disciplines plus yoga, strength and conditioning and Pilates. The intense training can be overwhelming at times. Walsh combats it by volunteering as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for children. On the dedication it takes to compete at the Paralympic level, Walsh says: “You have to decide several times a day to stick with something so challenging and intimidating. Discouragement is part of the process. Your job is to have a solid plan and stay the course.”
