USA Triathlon Weekend Notebook: May 31

IRONMAN South American Championship

Elizabeth Lyles (Reno, Nev.) was victorious in Florianopolis, Brazil, this weekend, winning the gold medal in the IRONMAN South American Championship with a time of 8:54:10 to break the course record despite heavy rain and high winds. Her time was over 15 minutes faster than the next closest female finisher, Mareen Hufe of Germany (9:09:36). Spain’s Gurutze Frades rounded out the podium in third (9:15:52).

On the men’s side, Kevin Collington (Orlando, Fla.) picked up the bronze medal at race, finishing with a time of 8:04:58. The mark was just 43 seconds away from second but over 8 minutes back from gold-medalist Brent McMahon of Canada. For full results, visit ironman.com.
