USA Triathlon Weekend Notebook: March 14

Mooloolaba ITU World Cup
National Team member Kirsten Kasper (North Andover, Mass.) finished on the podium for the second-straight week after picking up a bronze medal in Mooloolaba Sunday. It was her second-career ITU World Cup third-place finish. Renée Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J.) also raced in Mooloolaba, finishing fifth. She was fifth at last weekend’s ITU World Triathlon Series opener in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as well. For complete results and more on the World Cup, visit usatriathlon.org.

Sarasota CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon American Championships
Kaitlin Donner (Satellite Beach, Fla.) picked up her first victory of 2016 Saturday in Sarasota, winning by more than 30 seconds. Up-and-coming junior elite Taylor Knibb (Washington, D.C.) finished second after winning last weekend’s sprint-distance CAMTRI American Cup in Clermont, Fla.

American Erin Jones (Hood River, Ore.) just missed the podium, coming in eight seconds behind Great Britain’s India Lee, who finished third. For the men, Ben Kanute (Geneva, Ill.) finished fourth and was the top American male for the day. He missed the podium by less than one second. Sarasota CAMTRI Paratriathlon American Championships
Six paratriathletes provisionally qualified for the first U.S. Paralympic Traithlon Team and nine athletes won continental championship titles Sunday in Sarasota. Geoffrey Kennedy (PT1, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico), Brian Norberg (PT2, Chicago, Ill.), Allysa Seely (PT2, Glendale, Ariz.), Jamie Brown (PT4, Carlsbad, Calif.), Ruth-Ann Reeves (PT4, Hattiesburg, Miss.) and Elizabeth Baker (PT5, Signal Mountain, Tenn.) all met the qualification standards set forth by USA Triathlon to provisionally earn spots in their respective sport classes.

Nine athletes also won CAMTRI Championship titles Sunday: Krige Schabort (PT1, Rome, Ga.), Mark Barr (PT2, Houston, Texas), Kendall Gretsch (PT1, Madison, Wis.), Andrea Walton (PT3, Chicago, Ill.), Chris Hammer (PT4, Salt Lake City, Utah), Grace Norman (PT4, Jamestown, Ohio) and Aaron Scheidies (PT5, Seattle, Wash.) as well as Seely and Baker.

Sarasota CAMTRI Mixed Relay American Championships
Sunday also featured a mixed relay race. Kaitlin Donner (Satellite Beach, Fla.), Eric Lagerstrom (Portland, Ore.), Erin Jones (Hood River, Ore.) and Jarrod Shoemaker (Clermont, Fla.) posted the fastest combined time, finishing 40 seconds ahead of Team Canada.
