COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — USA Triathlon has recognized Michael Harlow, head coach of the Richmond-based Endorphin Fitness Junior Elite Triathlon Team, as its 2012 Developmental Coach of the Year.
Harlow (Glen Allen, Va.) guided his Endorphin Fitness Junior Elite Triathlon Team to the No. 3 national ranking among USA Triathlon’s High Performance Teams in 2012. Harlow coached Stone Dyson to Youth Elite All-America honors in 2012, while Endorphin Fitness Youth Elite athletes Grace Obando (10th) and Robbie Starling (ninth) and Junior Elites Ryan Peterson (eighth) and Melissa Teeple (eighth) also garnered top-10 national rankings last season.
Additionally, 10 Endorphin Fitness athletes earned top-10 rankings in their age groups in the 2012 Virginia Triathlon Series Rankings.
“I am overwhelmingly honored by this award and want to thank USA Triathlon for the recognition,” Harlow said. “It is not alone that I accept this award, but rather I share it with the entire Endorphin Fitness team of athletes and coaches who have made this possible. I believe in the power of triathlon to positively impact lives and am blessed to be able to share this passion with the athletes I coach daily.”
In addition to mentoring 80 youth and junior triathletes, Harlow also is active in the Richmond multisport community in many other ways. Endorphin Fitness produces a local youth triathlon that fully benefits the Virginia Home for Boys and Girls and also will produce the East Coast Triathlon Festival on May 5, which features a Youth and Junior Elite Cup — a qualifier for the 2013 USA Triathlon Youth Elite and Junior Elite National Championships.
