Feb. 10, 2008, 12 a.m. (ET)

BEND, Ore. (Feb. 10 2008) Mike Kloser (Vail, Colo.) defended his elite men's title and Heather Best (Fairbanks, Alaska) won for the elite women at the USA Triathlon Winter Triathlon National Championship at Mt. Bachelor on Saturday, Feb. 9.

A total of 53 athletes took part in the race with the age groupers and elites competing for national titles and spots on Team USA competing at the ITU World Championship in Freuenstadt, Germany later this month.

The weather did its part as two days of snow, wind, and cold cleared up for perfect conditions of clear skies and temperatures in the high 30s on race day.

"The Mt. Bachelor venue was great. The weather today was perfect," said USAT National Events Director Jeff Dyrek. "The course was challenging, especially the bike. We look forward to building on this event for 2009. Mt. Bachelor was a success and we look forward to the future of winter tri in Bend, Oregon."
