Ultra-Distance National Championships

Clermont, Florida

Oct. 24, 2020 7:30 a.m. (ET)

This event is ON and registration is OPEN! Clermont, Florida, will be hosting the 2020 Ultra-Distance National Championships in conjunction with the 30th Annual Great Floridian Triathlon on October 24, 2020! The Great Floridian Triathlon (GFT) is the oldest independent (non-Ironman licensed) full distance triathlon in the country. This year marks its 30th year running. That is a milestone very few full distance triathlons have reached. Participation in the Great Floridian peaked in the early 2000's when it had over 1,100 entrants in the 140.6 distance. The GFT is known as the people's race because the athletes always come first. Its Central Florida location make it an ideal destination event with major tourist attractions like Walt Disney World less than 30 minutes away. The late October date is in Florida’s off season, so lodging is plentiful and cheap. The event has been embraced by the community for nearly 3 decades and has attracted athletes from all 50 states and more than 30 countries.

*No qualification is necessary to compete in this event.*

Distances: 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run

Eligible Age Groups and Awards

The Ultra-Distance National Championships will have Team USA qualification slots for the 2021 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship, part for the 2021 ITU Multisport Festival. It is the policy of USA Triathlon to provide awards only for those age groups which qualify for this level of competition. Age groups will begin with 17-19 and continue in 5-year increments through 80-84. The minimum ages to compete are based on the ITU Competition Rules (appendix A, page 98).

  • For the 2020 USA Triathlon Ultra-Distance National Championship, athletes must be 17 as of December 31, 2020.
  • For the 2021 ITU Long Distance World Championships, athletes must be 18 as of December 31, 2021.

Please note that this event may have additional categories other than what is listed here. USA Triathlon will only provide National Championship awards for the listed age groups. If you are wishing to compete at this event, but do not meet the minimum age requirement, we encourage you to participate in one of our youth events. All-American Recognition

The USA Triathlon National Rankings are one of the great benefits you receive as a USA Triathlon annual member. Rankings allow you to see how you stack up against friends, family, co-workers and others in your age group across the country. This year, we will also be awarding All-American status for National Championships. For the Ultra-Distance National Championships, the top athlete (1st place only) per age group will earn this recognition. Upon completion of the event, an electronic certificate will be sent to each athlete honoring their accomplishment. In addition, a complete list of all member rankings is posted right here.
