A Festival Like No Other

The inaugural USA Triathlon Multisport National Championships Festival Presented by Toyota will be held April 28-May 1, 2022 in Irving, Texas. Showcasing the sport’s offering of multiple race formats, the Multisport National Championships Festival will include six National Championship events: Draft-legal Triathlon National Championships; Duathlon (run-bike-run) National Championships; Aquathlon (run-swim-run)* National Championships; Aquabike (swim-bike) National Championships; Super Sprint Triathlon Time Trial National Championships (non-drafting); Age Group Mixed Relay National Championships (draft-legal). The event also includes a non-championship Olympic-distance triathlon and open water swim competition. No qualification is required, so athletes of all abilities are invited to race!

All races will be held at Irving’s Levy Event Plaza, which opened in 2020 in the city’s Las Colinas Urban Center along Lake Carolyn as a dedicated outdoor hub for Irving community events. The race venue at Levy Event Plaza is a convenient 10-minute drive from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and is within the bustling Las Colinas area with beautiful lake-side trails and a plethora of dining, hotel and entertainment options, including the Toyota Music Factory.

What is a Mixed Relay?

Get ready for the first ever Age Group Mixed Relay National Championships on Saturday, April 30! Mixed Relay is the most exciting and spectator-friendly format of triathlon where a team composed of four people, two males and two females, each completes an entire super sprint triathlon. In Irving, each team member will do a 250m swim, 5k bike (draft-legal), and 1.2k run. As each person finishes, they tag the next person to start the swim and complete their leg of the race. The fourth and final team member will complete their swim-bike-run and anchor their team through the finish for the final time. Awards are based on the cumulated age of the four team members. Visit the mixed relay information page for more details. Teams of 2 males and 2 females will go in the order of male, female, male, female.

Mixed relays have been on the USA Triathlon National Championships calendar for many years now, but only at Collegiate Club Nationals and Youth and Junior Nationals. In fact, many of our Olympic Triathletes raced and won in the Mixed Relay at Youth and Junior Nationals in past years. The 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games was the debut for Mixed Relay Triathlon where Team USA took home the silver medal!
