2020 Collegiate Club Cup & High School National Championship Update

The 2020 Collegiate Club, High School, and Duathlon National Championships, all of which were initially set for this spring but were postponed due to the COVID-pandemic, have been rescheduled for Oct. 16-17 in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, as part of the Havasu Triathlon co-hosted by race production companies Tucson Racing and 3 Disciplines (3D) Racing. Because several collegiate club teams cannot travel and compete as a team this fall due to directives from their schools or conferences, we have made the decision to remove the National Championship designation from the event and rename the event the USA Triathlon Collegiate Club Cup. The High School National Championships retain their original name and championship designation.

In addition, there have been two important schedule changes:

  • The Collegiate Draft-Legal event originally scheduled for Friday has been canceled, as a significant portion of the field will be unable to attend due to team travel restrictions.
  • The Collegiate Mixed Relay, initially scheduled for Saturday after the Olympic-distance race, has been moved to Friday in place of the draft-legal event.

The Collegiate Club Cup and High School National Championships — as well as the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships and non-championship age group races taking place same weekend — will be held with stringent COVID-19 safety and hygiene protocols in place to ensure that the health and safety of all athletes, staff, volunteers and the community remains the highest priority. Please visit usatriathlon.org/safe-return for an overview of USA Triathlon’s Safe Return to Multisport guidelines. Specific safety protocols will be posted on the event website (tucsonracing.com) by mid-September.

USA Triathlon and Tucson Racing are continuing to communicate closely with Lake Havasu City and the Arizona Department of Health Services, and we will continue to comply with all local and state directives regarding the event. If the status of the Havasu Triathlon changes, we will communicate updates to all registered athletes immediately.

In addition, USA Triathlon remains in regular contact with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) regarding the impact of COVID-19 on the national and global sports landscape. Any further potential changes to USA Triathlon’s National Championships event calendar will be communicated immediately.
