Weather Update for Sunday at USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships

USA Triathlon is monitoring the weather forecast for Sunday in Greenville. Scattered thunderstorms in the morning may become more widespread in the afternoon, with wind gusts of 15 to 25 mph.

SPRINT DISTANCE RACE UPDATE

Due to heavy rain, thunderstorms and threat of lightning this afternoon, the following modifications have been made to the schedule for Sunday afternoon at the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships:

  • The Non-Draft Sprint-distance race will be changed to a super-sprint-distance: 2k run (two laps), 6k bike (one lap), 1.35k run (1 lap)
  • The race will start at 1:05 p.m., following the same wave schedule
  • Athletes, please arrive to the starting line at 12:45 p.m.

The Duathlon Town Hall meeting and Award Ceremony will still take place at 5:30 and 6:15 p.m., respectively, at Fluor Field. 

Standard-Distance race update: Wave 1 will still start at 7:30 a.m. as scheduled. 

Subsequent waves will start in 5-minute increments. 

Adjusted wave times: 

Wave 2 at 7:35

Wave 3 at 7:40 

Wave 4 at 7:45 

Wave 5 at 7:50 

Wave 6 at 7:55 

Disc wheels: Disc wheels will be allowed for Sunday morning's Standard-Distance race. 

Participants and spectators are encouraged to check usatriathlon.org/du2019, the USA Triathlon Events app and social media for the latest official weather information. Notification of delays, cancellations or race modifications will be posted and/or distributed as early as possible.

USA Triathlon is pleased to offer three races in Greenville. On Saturday, April 13, the Draft-Legal Sprint National Championship will take place and on Sunday, April 14, Non-drafting Sprint and Standard National Championships will be awarded. Whether you are looking for the opportunity to become a national champion or simply participate in the most competitive duathlon in the U.S., this race is for you.

As in past years, you can race in all three championship events. No qualification is required to participate in any of the three events.

No Bags or Bikes Permitted at Fluor Field Events

For all race briefings, awards ceremonies, Duathlon Townhall Meeting, and Draft-Legal Clinic occurring at Fluor Field at the West End on Friday – Sunday, ABSOLUTELY NO BIKES OR LARGE BAGS will be permitted to enter the stadium. This is due to the stadium’s strict security policy for the safety of all guests. Please leave your bikes and bags in your hotel room or vehicle. Draft-Legal Rules

For athletes participating in the Draft-Legal National Championship on Saturday, be sure to familiarize yourself with the rules, which have several differences from non-draft racing. Team USA Qualification

Athletes will have the opportunity to qualify for the 2020 ITU Multisport World Championships Festival in Almere, Netherlands through the USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships.

Athletes may race in all 3 events in Greenville. Both the Non-Drafting and Draft-Legal Sprint-Distance events in Greenville will qualify for the 2020 Draft-Legal Sprint World Championship.

TEAM USA SLOT-CLAIMING UPDATE: Team USA slots will now be totally claimed via email after the event from TeamUSA@usatriathlon.org. For this event, it is not necessary to attend the awards ceremony to claim your slot. Additionally, slots will now roll-down to the 30th place in each aged-up age group in the standard-distance and draft-legal sprint distance.
