COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The best run-bike-run athletes in the country will travel to the Pacific Northwest for the 2016-17 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Championships, the organization announced today.

Dates are set for the two-year stay in Bend, Oregon, with national championship action scheduled for June 25, 2016, and June 24, 2017. Athletes will compete for age-group national titles in the standard- and sprint-distance races, as well as spots on Team USA, the select group of amateur multisport athletes who represent the U.S. at International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Championship events. Race distances and course information will be shared on when available.

“Duathlon Nationals is a prime opportunity for multisport athletes to test their bike and run skills on a national stage, and we’re excited to showcase this talent in Bend for the next two years,” said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. “Bend has so much to offer our athletes in the way of recreational and cultural activities, and we’re looking forward to creating a memorable event experience with our partners at Visit Bend and the City of Bend.”

"We've been working with USA Triathlon for five years to bring this event to Bend," explained Doug La Placa, CEO for Visit Bend. "Hosting the Duathlon National Championships in Bend is an honor for our tourism industry, and we’re looking forward to exceeding the expectations of USA Triathlon and their athletes from around the country."

The City of Bend boasts the nickname of “the outdoor playground of the West” for its endless options of trail running, cycling, hiking and more. With Mt. Bachelor and the Cascade Mountain Range nearby, the cosmopolitan mountain town has become an international mecca for outdoor enthusiasts and people in search of healthy, active vacation destinations.

Nearly 600 athletes competed at the 2014 USA Triathlon Duathlon Nationals in St. Paul, Minnesota, and the event returns to St. Paul this year on June 6. More information is available at
