Ambassadors

USA Triathlon is proud to feature three ambassadors of the Legacy Triathlon. These Los Angeles locals are passionate about the sport of triathlon, and are strong influencers within their communities. They strive to make multisport accessible to all, and are advocates of this brand new event. Join them and start your Legacy today!

Audra Mallow

Audra has been a triathlete for seventeen years, and an Ironman for nine years. She loves the camaraderie of the sport, the ability to continue competing and pushing herself, and the high level of health and fitness that she has been able to find. Audra is a seven-time Ironman, a fourteen-time 70.3 finisher (one at World Championships) and has many Olympic and Sprint races under her belt, as well as a few podium finishes. She relishes bringing people to the sport, and enjoys seeing how accomplishing a race can affect someone in both sport and life.

Michael MallowMichael Mallow

Michael was a runner and a weight lifter until he met his wife, Audra, who in 2013 introduced him to triathlon at the age of 47. The thrill of continuing to improve keeps Michael going, and he strives to continually set the bar higher. He is a four-time Ironman, has competed in the 70.3 World Championships, and had his first podium finish last year. The balance between work and training keeps him sharp as both a lawyer and an athlete.

Rosalind Jarrett Sepulveda

Rosalind

A nine-time member of Team USA, the 2008 Aquathlon World Champion, 2011 Xterra Southern California Trail Run Series Regional Champion, and 2015 USA Triathlon Duathlon National Champion in her age group, Rosalind Jarrett Sepulveda is living proof that a love of multisport can start at any age. Sixteen years ago, after receiving news that her health was declining, the then 54-year old competed in her first triathlon, encouraged by the support and camaraderie of the Los Angeles Triathlon Club. Passion for a new sport was ignited, and within two years Jarrett was named LA Tri Club’s Volunteer of the Year, and within four years she had qualified for her first World Championship. Her health is now better-than-ever, and her passion for swim, bike, and run continually grows. She has now become a frequent fixture atop local podiums, with a goal of conquering the courses at the Legacy Triathlon.

Aquathlon National Championships-Qualify for Team USA

The Aquathlon National Championships will take place at the Legacy Triathlon. All athletes entered in the aquathlon division will have the opportunity to qualify as a member of Team USA and compete at the Aquathlon World Championships, which will take place in Townsville, Australia, August 18-28, 2022. Depending on the number of transfers from the cancellation of 2020/2021 Aquathlon World Championships, up to the top 18 in each age group will qualify. Roll downs will occur through 30th place. Again, the number of available spots depend on transfers. Each age group will vary.  The charts below show the number of spots currently available for qualification via the Aquathlon National Championships. If by chance World Triathlon does find a 2021 event as a world championship location, all 2020 athletes will be competing in that event and any consideration for those athletes to compete in 2022 will be part of a priority system that will position them behind those who compete in Long Beach. More information about Team USA can be found here.

All-American Recognition: Aquathlon Nationals

The USA Triathlon National Rankings are one of the great benefits you receive as a USA Triathlon annual member. Rankings allow you to see how you stack up against friends, family, co-workers and others in your age group across the country. This year, we will also be awarding All-American status for National Championships. For the Aquathlon National Championships, the top 10% of athletes per age group will earn this recognition. Upon completion of the event, an electronic certificate will be sent to each athlete honoring their accomplishment. In addition, a complete list of all member rankings is posted right here.

Awards Ceremony

The Awards Ceremonies will take place at Alamitos Beach in the event's Finish Line area,

Check-In Process

USA Triathlon has a new digital check-in process for packet pickup. Once you enter the packet pick-up area you will go directly to the iPad check-in station. With your last name, you will be able to retrieve your bib number(s). Please be sure to take note of your bib number(s) before hitting the check-in button on the iPad. As always, you will still need to present your driver's license/photo ID to the volunteer to pick up your packet.

Clydesdale and Athena Divisions

Clydesdale and Athena athletes will have the opportunity to compete for age group awards in Clydesdale and Athena-specific divisions! Clydesdales (males) must be 220 pounds or greater on race day. Athenas (females) must be 165 pounds or greater on race day. Clydesdale and Athena athletes will start the race with their respective five-year age group wave.

If you wish to register as a Clydesdale or Athena athlete, select Yes for that question in registration. Anybody identifying as a Clydesdale or Athena athlete will still compete in their respective five-year age group and be eligible for those awards. For Aquathlon Nationals, they will be eligible for Team USA qualification and regular age group national championship awards. A separate set of awards will be awarded specifically to Clydesdale and Athena divisions in the following categories for both the Legacy Triathlon and Aquathlon Nationals:

  • Clydesdale 39 & Under
  • Athena 39 & under
  • Clydesdale 40-59
  • Athena 40-54
  • Clydesdale 60+
  • Athena 55+

Weigh-In Requirements:

  • All Clydesdale and Athena athletes will be required to weigh-in on race morning in transition area prior to the race. Official weights will only be recorded on race morning.
  • All athletes MUST weigh-in at or above the minimum weights, 220 pounds for Clydesdales and 165 pounds for Athenas. A USA Triathlon staff member or volunteer will be managing the scales in transition area.
  • When weighing-in, athletes must only be wearing their racing kits. No shoes, hats, energy replacement, or other gear will be permitted on the scales.
  • Any athlete wishing to compete in Clydesdale or Athena divisions will be INELIGIBLE if either of the following apply:
    • You fail to meet the weight minimums on race morning
    • You fail to weigh-in on race morning
  • Once you have weighed-in and have met the weight minimum successfully, the USAT staff member will check your name off a list and you sign the list indicating you acknowledge the weight noted.

This partnership consists of a virtual program featuring Olympian Hunter Kemper and Paralympian Melissa Stockwell, in which youth in the Long Beach area learn healthy habits and the importance of preserving in life. The program culminates at the Legacy Triathlon where kids will be able test their new skills as they take part in a multisport clinic.

Sportsmanship

USA Triathlon Sportsmanship Creed

As competitive athletes and members of the triathlon community, you know there is no better feeling than succeeding in your endeavors in sport. As a competitor at USA Triathlon events, you have a responsibility to demonstrate the highest standards of sportsmanship per the USA Triathlon Rulebook (Article III, Sections 3.3 and 3.4, Line b.), and as such, should always show respect for the sport, your fellow athletes, race staff, officials, volunteers and spectators. Each individual athlete shares this responsibility, which includes refraining from the use of improper language and conduct detrimental to the community at large. This rule will be strictly enforced and disrespectful language or conduct will not be tolerated. For more information on USA Triathlon rules and sportsmanship, please reference the USAT Competitive Rules.

Timing Chips

Timing chips must be returned after the event - they are NOT disposable. If you are participating in multiple races, you will receive a separate chip for each race. Your chip must be returned at the completion of your race at the finish line. If you forget to return your chip, you can return it by mail. Lost chips result in a $95 replacement fee. Mail lost chips to:

Sportstats USA

Chips will be pre-stuffed into individual race packets. For athletes doing multiple races, chips will display your bib number for each respective race.
