Education Stipend Award

The USA Triathlon Women's Committee will be awarding two scholarships up to $1,500 to two women who are interested in furthering their knowledge in the multi-sport field. Preference for the award will be given to USAT Educational opportunities. The scholarship may be used for registration and/or travel (to and from the conference/training/workshop, lodging costs, etc.). Only opportunities approved by the USAT Women's Committee are eligible for this award. A list of those opportunities can be found here. The 2019 grant applications are closed. 

Application Guidelines:

  • A nominee does not have to be a USAT member (although preference will be given to annual members)
  • Nominations of women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and athletes from less represented regions of USAT are especially encouraged
  • Emphasis in the application should be focused on the applicant's intentions for the stipend, as well as goals desired by pursuing the proposed special development event. 

Nomination Review, Selection, and Notification:

After the application deadline, the selection committee will begin their review and selection process. The selection committee are appointed by the chair of the USAT Women’s Committee, and is comprised of USAT WC members. The selection committee recommends a recipient to receive an award. The recommendations award selection committees are reviewed and approved by the USAT Women’s Committee. After winners are approved, the recipients shall receive a notification letter from the WC Award Chair. The USAT Women’s Committee will announce the prize and award recipients on the USAT website and other media.

Women's Grant Program

The USAT Womens Committee is providing up to 3K of funding, done in 1K increments, towards multisport groups putting on events for women. This can include clinics, triathlons, race waves, and other events that help our mission of getting more women into the sport of triathlon. Preference will go towards the applications providing all the necessary documents and those that impact the most women.

Spirit of Judy Flannery Award

The USA Triathlon Women's Committee accepts nominations annual for the Spirit of Judy Flannery Award. The award was established in 1997 in honor of Judy Flannery. Flannery, a Grand Masters multisport athlete, served as the first Women's Commission chair and was killed in a bike accident. This award honored Judy and her contribution to the sport. 
Nominees should best represent those special qualities of Judy Flannery, among them: 

  • Excellence in multisport
  • High Moral Charactor
  • Demonstration of "giving back" to the sport
  • Current female member in good standing of USA Triathlon, a preference will be noted for nominees in the Masters or Grand Masters division.

The nomination period is typically in December of each year. The winner will receive recognition in the USAT magazine, the online multisport zone, some USAT swag and a small grant to help a fellow triathlete get closer to their multisport goals.
