Swim, bike, run. Though the basic format stays the same, triathlon has several racing distances, from the youth events all the way up to double and triple ultra-distance events. Athletes of all shapes, sizes, ages and fitness levels compete in triathlon yearly to prove that when you put your mind to something, anything is possible.
Duathlon
Duathlon is a run-bike-run combination. It is sometimes confused with biathlon, which is the official term for the Olympic sport of skiing and shooting. Typically contested in run – bike – run formats, duathlons are varied in length.
Aquathlon
Aquathlon is a fun and fast-growing sport that combines running and swimming. A typical aquathlon is a run/swim/run combination; however it is not uncommon to see a two-stage race that is simply a swim/run combination.
Off-Road & Gravel
Off-road and gravel events offer a great way to get into multisports for mountain bikers, trail runners, or for those with an adventurous side who don’t mind getting a little dirty.
Paratriathlon
Many races have a dedicated category, or entire events, for paratriathletes, who compete in various sport classifications. Paratriathlon made its Paralympic debut at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.
Winter Triathlon
Winter triathlon involves running, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing – all performed on snow. It is a perfect way to learn new sports, improve your base fitness and expand your skills as a multisport athlete.
Aquabike
Multisport can take many forms. One that is becoming popular of late is Aquabike, a swim/bike combination that has become a favorite of injured athletes who can no longer run.
Mixed-Relay
Super fun! Teams of four (two women, two men) combine to race, with each team member racing a super-sprint swim, bike, run triathlon before tagging their teammate. The fast, exciting Mixed Relay made its Olympic debut at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Draft-Legal Triathlon
The racing you see at the Olympics and World Triathlon international competition. With drafting and technical maneuvering, while riding in packs, draft-legal racing is increasing in popularity among the age group ranks.
