USA Women with Win Over French Club

April 19, 2019, 8:58 a.m. (ET)

(USA Women with Yutz club team)

The USA Women’s National Team is on the road again in France, Germany and Luxembourg to continue their preparation for the NORCA Championship and the Pan American Games.

On Wednesday night they played a friendly match vs Yutz, a club in eastern France, not far from Luxembourg.  The U.S. came roaring out of the gate securing an 8-1 lead midway through the first half.  Yutz, however, fought back and a combination of fast break goals and a more effective spread offense narrowed the lead to just 11-9 at halftime.

In the second half the score the U.S. was able to extend its lead to 18-12 only to see Yutz again close the gap to 19-17.  The U.S. then managed to pull away for good for a final score of 26-21.  The U.S. was led in scoring by Nicole Andersen and Jence Rhoads, both with 8 goals.  The U.S. also had outstanding goalkeeping from Bryanna Newbern.  Coach Latulippe was overall pleased with his team, but still sees plenty of room for improvement, particularly with their defense against the pivot.

For the coaching staff, the goal of this France/Germany/Luxembourg Tour is to provide regular competition for their athletes, so the core group can get in synch with each other.  It has also been a very good opportunity for the coaches to assess athlete development and conditioning for the big international competitions coming up this summer.

The USA Women’s National Team would like to thank Yutz for hosting the match and letting the team use their gymnasium for practices during their stay.

The U.S. will now play two international friendlies vs Luxembourh on Friday and Saturday.  Tonight’s game is at 7:00 PM CET / 1:00 PM US ET and will be live streamed: Link
