USA Defeats Mexico 35-25 and Advances to Semifinals

The USA Men beat Mexico last night 35-25 to advance to the semifinals of the IHF NORCA Emerging Nations Tourney.  Mexico played an aggressive fast paced style that resulted in several turnovers and fast breaks and the U.S. took control of the match right from the start jumping to a 6-2 lead.  The lead extended to 14-7 at the half.  In the second half, U.S. Coach, Robert Hedin, decided to rest many of his starters and several bench players saw extended action.  Alex Binderis led the balanced scoring attack with 6 goals.

The U.S. has today (Friday) off and then will play hosts, Dominican Republic in a semifinal match Saturday night.  The Dominican Republic is also unbeaten with Group Play wins over Haiti (57-16), St Kitts & Nevis (55-8) and a quarterfinal victory over Canada 28-16.  Cuba and Puerto Rico will play in the first semifinal.
