IHF Trophy Continental Phase hosted in USA, Junior MNT Roster Released
USA will host the IHF Trophy Continental Phase for Men’s Youth and Junior Levels in West Dundee, IL at The Team Handball Academy at LifeZone360.
Countries participating include Canada, Guadeloupe, Martinique, and Mexico for the Youth Division. For the Junior Division, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mexico, and host, United States will compete.
Countries have arrived to the Windy City, with competition officially to begin tomorrow, November 17, 2018.
The United States Junior National Team will feature talented young men that competed at the senior Michael Lipov Memorial Tournament in Chicago last month, where Team Handball Academy took Silver. The roster is almost identical to the Youth National Team roster that competed at the Pan American Championships two years ago.
USA will be lead by head coach Pierre Binderis and Team Leader Mark Ortega. Binderis lead the Men’s Junior team to the Gold Medal over Canada as assistant coach to Julio Sainez during the First Phase of the IHF Trophy in May of this year. Binderis will be looking to lead his team of 8 juniors and 6 youth players to a qualification for the Men’s Junior World Championship. Senior National Team Assistant Coach, Mark Ortega will be the Team Leader for the Junior Men's National Team during this competition.
The winners of the junior competition will qualify for the IHF Trophy Intercontinental Phase, where a place at the 2019 Men’s Junior World Championship will be decided.
All matches of the competition will be livestreamed on the International Handball Federation’s facebook page.
