USATH Announces IHF Men's Junior & Youth Coaching Selections

USATH today announced the selection of four coaches to lead the USA Men’s Junior and Youth National Teams into the upcoming 2018 Men’s IHF Trophy Cup Men’s Junior and Youth North American & Caribbean Zone Championships at the Lifezone 360 Facility in West Dundee, IL from Monday, May 7, 2018 through Saturday, May 12, 2018.

A highly regarded selection committee was assembled to evaluate candidates and pick the coaching staffs for both teams.  USA Olympian and former USA Men’s National Team Head Coach Rod Oshita, chaired the committee, joined by former USA Men’s National Team Assistant Coach and USA Women’s National Team Head Coach Chris Cappelmann, and by former USA Men’s National Team Goal Keeper, Athlete Representative, and Member of the Board of Directors of USA Team Handball, David Thompson.

The committee received many applications for the positions and after careful deliberation made the following selections:

USA Men’s Junior Head Coach- Julio Sainz

USA Men’s Junior Assistant Coach- Pierre Binderis

USA Men’s Youth Head Coach- Craig Rot

USA Men’s Youth Assistant Coach- Tak Mimura

USATH Director of High Performance, David Gascon, expressed his gratitude to the selection committee, "Rod, Cap, and David, are an exceptional group of high character leaders with tremendous team handball experience.  They are very concerned with ensuring our young athletes are led by the highest quality individuals available to USATH.  That is very obviously reflected in the individuals selected for these important assignments.  The teams have been picked and the coaching staffs in now in place.  While the challenge is great, I believe these players and these two coaching staffs are up to the task.”
