Two-Time Olympic Medalist Robert Hedin Selected to Lead the USA MNT in Pan American Games Qualification.

USA Team Handball is excited to announce the appointment of Robert Hedin as the head coach of the USA Men’s Senior National Team for the upcoming home and away series against Canada. Robert brings tremendous international experience as a player and coach. Robert played 196 national games for Sweden including winning silver medals at both the 92 Barcelona Olympics and 96 Atlanta Olympics. As a coach, Robert has been successful at every level including some of the top clubs in Europe as well as coaching the Men’s Norwegian National Team for 6 years where he lead them to 2 World Championship appearances. Robert will begin working immediately after the successful clearance of his background check.

As part of the selection process, Robert interviewed several top-level candidates and selected Mark Ortega to be his assistant coach for the upcoming competition. Mark brings in experience of over 100 national games with the USA as a former player as well as extensive knowledge of the program as the previous assistant coach for the past 4 years.

The Men’s and Women’s National Teams will be playing a home and away series against Canada to qualify for the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru to be held in September of 2019. The Pan American Games will serve as the qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan. The first match between to two neighboring countries will be played September 2nd at Auburn University with the second leg played in Montreal, Canada September 5th.
