Sept. 04, 2013, 1:07 p.m. (ET)
New York City, NY - For the first time in their history New York City Team Handball Club will play a transatlantic exhibition event in London against the British Olympians and the best team in England, London Great Danes.

The games will be played at The Copper Box September 8, 2013. The Copper Box was the venue for the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Olympic Park in Hackney, London. It was also known as the Handball Arena.

"I am excited to be a part of the first transatlantic tournament for our club, and even more so to be able to play at the London Olympics venue The Copper Box. This is where the best in the world played during 2012 Olympics, and it's a privilege for our players to play there, and give fans in London something to cheer about," said Shkumbin Mustafa, New York City Handball Club president.

The matchups between two of the top teams from U.S. and England marks the first of its kind played in London, and it serves as preparation for London GD aspirations to qualify further in the EHF Cup.

New York City Handball Club will also play Great Britain Olympians in its first match of its kind, and give an opportunity to all the fans to watch some of the best British handballers in action.

Building relationships between the two cities that have a small, enthusiastic and thriving community of handball players is only the first step that will help make handball more popular in USA and Great Britain.

"This year we celebrate our 40 year anniversary, and this is the first time in the history of our club we play a game across the ocean. It's the beginning of something bigger for our club, and for the city of New York. Our influence in the world of handball will soon be noticed," added Shkumbin Mustafa.
