Jan. 13, 2009, 12 a.m. (ET)
The Los Angeles Team Handball Club has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers NBA franchise to perform a team handball exhibition following the Jan. 17 Clippers game versus the Milwaukee Bucks. Prior to tipoff, there will be a seven minute exhibition highlighting the skills and athleticism needed to play the sport of team handball. Following the conclusion of the basketball game, there will be a full 30 x 30 minute exhibition game featuring players from the Los Angeles Team Handball Club, Santa Clarita Team Handball Club and Camp Pendleton Team Handball Club.

The Staples Center is an 18,000+ seat arena in downtown Los Angeles. The facility serves as the home to two NBA franchises (LA Lakers and LA Clippers), one NHL team (LA Kings), one WNBA team (LA Sparks) and one Arena Football League team (LA Avengers). In addition, the Staples Center hosts events such as concerts, world class boxing, political conventions, the Grammy Awards, Wrestlemania, X-Games and college basketball.

Following the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, there has been a renewed excitement about team handball in the Southern California area.  Already in the books was the Southern California beach championship tournament in Huntington Beach, CA, played in September 2008. The King Team Handball League, comprising competitive team handball played on a weekly basis, is going on in Bellflower, CA, at the Hollywood Sport Park. Four teams are competing in a nine-week regular season for positioning in a two-week playoff. The exhibition match at the Staples Center on Jan. 17 will culminate the last week of the regular season for the league and precede the tryouts for the U.S. national teams at California Lutheran University on Jan. 24.
