(Oct 16, 2020) - The Athlete Advisory Council (AAC) is seeking candidates for election to serve during the term 2021 – 2024. The mission of the AAC is to communicate the interests and protect the rights of athletes in cooperative support of USATKD in achieving its mission. It is responsible for broadening communication between USATKD and active sparring, poomsae, and paralympic athletes, and serves as a source of input and advice to the USATKD Board of Directors with regard to current and contemplated USATKD policies.
Athletes who have represented the United States in Olympic, Paralympic, Pan American, Para Pan American, or Operation Gold event, or a world championship recognized by the World Taekwondo, for which a competitive selection process was administered by USATKD within the preceding ten years as measured from the first AAC meeting of the Quadrennium, and who are members of USATKD in good standing on the date this announcement was published are eligible to participate in the election to the USOPC Athletes’ Advisory Council, both as candidates and voters. Additionally, sparring and poomsae athletes who have competed in and finished in the top half of the USATKD National Championships in the last 24 months are also eligible to run for the USATKD AAC.
There will be two elections – first for the two AAC Representatives who will be seated on both the USOPC and USATKD Athlete Advisory Councils, and second for the remaining 8 seats on the USA Taekwondo Athlete Advisory Council.
If you believe you are eligible, and are interested in running, please send notification to current AAC Chairperson Barbara Brand via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) before end of day on 5 November 2020, stating whether you wish to run for the USOPC AAC, USATKD AAC or both. Please note that the successful candidates in the USOPC AAC election will automatically be elected to the USATKD AAC.
Unsuccessful candidates in the USOPC AAC election will be automatically entered as a candidate in the second election for USATKD AAC if they indicated that they wished to run for both when putting their name forward.
