USA Taekwondo Names Pan Am Qualification Tournament Teams

Pan American Games Qualification Tournament Team

USA Taekwondo can today confirm the athletes who will be competing in the Pan American Games Qualification tournament in Santo Domingo in March.

Sparring Athletes:
Female -49kg – Monique Rodriguez
Female -57kg – Desirae Rolaff
Female -67kg – Paige McPherson
Female +67kg – Madelynn Gorman-Shore

Male -58kg – David Kim
Male -68kg – CJ Nickolas
Male -80kg – Thomas Rahimi
Male +80kg – Stephen Lambdin

What’s next for the Sparring Team?

The goal for these athletes is to qualify the United States for the 2019 Lima Pan American Games by finishing in the Top 12 at the Pan Am Games Qualification Tournament. Once those divisions are qualified, athletes will have until May 19thto earn points in either of the two combined World Weight Divisions. On May 20th, the number one athlete in each of the two overlapping World Weight Divisions will be invited to a fight-off, where the winner will be named to the 2019 Lima Pan American Games Team.

What’s next for the Para-Taekwondo Sparring Team?
Several athletes have already qualified for the 2019 Lima Parapan American Games due to their rank as of January 2019: Evan Medell (K44 M+75kg), Felix Sabates (K44 M-75kg), Alyssa Fencil (K44 F+58kg), Brianna Salinaro (K44 F-58kg), and Sophie Gimeno (K44 F-49kg). Michael Kacer and Johnny Birch have been as a second athlete in their respective divisions who hope to qualify themselves for the Parapan Am Games by finishing first or second at the Qualification Tournament.

What’s next for the Freestyle Poomsae Team?
The goal for this freestyle team is to qualify the United States for the 2019 Lima Pan American Games by placing in the Top 5 at the Pan Am Games Qualification Tournament. If the spot is qualified, USA Taekwondo will host an Open Team Trial to choose the team who will represent the US at the 2019 Lima Pan American Games.
