Lee, Bevel and Choi Medal at Cadet Worlds

(TASHKENT, Uzbekistan) --  The Tashkent 2019 World Taekwondo Cadet Championships kicked off on Wednesday, Aug 7,and the U.S. Cadet Taekwondo National Team represented their country proudly. On Wednesday (Day 1) the USA Team came out strong with 11-year-old Ashely Choi taking command of her -29kg division by defeating and gapping her opponents to move on to the semifinals. She took on a great athlete from Korea and took a tough loss, 22-10. However, this did not stop Choi from receiving the limelight by winning a bronze medal, the first for Team USA.

On Day 2 of the Cadet World Championships the U.S. National Team had five athletes competing, each giving it their all and fighting to win. Two athletes reached the quarterfinals and three athletes made it to the Round of 16.


Day 3 was one for the history books as Ava Lee took the first gold medal for Team USA at the 2019 Cadet World Championships in the -59kg division. Lee had a very close match against Iran in the final round, but came out on top, defeating her opponent,14-13.


On the final day of competition, Aiden Bevel gave the American contingent a complete set of medals as he took the silver in the -61kg competition. His only loss was in the final to a tough Iranian fighter.
