USA Taekwondo Launches Innovative New Referee Program

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 11, 2018) -- USA Taekwondo is today opening applications for three new Referee leadership positions, intended to overhaul and revamp the areas of education, evaluation and events. The new positions will be responsible for development and delivery of programs in much more specific areas than has been attempted before, and we believe this will increase the pace of change significantly within the referee program, leading to a much more robust, successful and growing group of officials.

“Our referees are amazing, and they deserve a program that gives them every opportunity to advance, be recognized and be the best that they can be,” said Jeanna Salgado, USA Taekwondo’s Event Director. In order to deliver that we sought input and suggestions from many great thinkers within the referee community, and believe we came up with a structure that will succeed in growing the number of high quality referees in the United States dramatically – which will lead to even better USA Taekwondo events and ensure athletes competing in U.S. competitions will receive the best officiating in the world.”

Applications are sought from today for the new positions of Referee Education Coordinator, Referee Event Coordinator and Referee Evaluation Coordinator. You can offer your services and expertise in any or all of these exciting new positions, and be a part of changing the future of refereeing in the United States, by using the online application forms below.

“This is a big change, and we understand that, but we are excited by the prospects for the future” Salgado continued. “This is just the beginning, and the successful applicants will work with USA Taekwondo and the Referee Leadership to shape and deliver a whole new program. Providing opportunities for referees to specialize and bring their expertise to a well-defined area vastly broadens the scope and number of people who will influence and improve our referee performance and pipeline through education, evaluation and much needed recruitment of quality new referees into the program.”

Applications close two weeks from today on Friday May 25 (close of business MT) and candidates will be contacted shortly afterwards with information on next steps in the selection process.

USA Taekwondo is excited to see who steps up to make a difference for both our referees and athletes/coaches by being a part of delivering the best referees in the world.
