Aziza Chambers (Springfield, Ohio) won her opening match on Saturday at the 2018 World Taekwondo Grand Prix in Rome, Italy, but could not advance past the round of 16 in the female -57kg division.
Chambers defeated Croatia's Nikita Glasnovic, 1-0, in her opening round match to reach the round of 16 and face Poland's Patrycja Adamkiewicz. Trailing 7-4 after the opening round, Chambers was unable to score in round two as Adamkiewicz opened up an insurmountable 16-4 lead to eventually take the match, 26-5.
In the female +67kg division, Madelynn Gorman-Shore (Littleton, Colo.) lost a 9-6 decision in her opening match of the female +67kg division to Italy's Maristella Smiraglia, while American teammate Sanaz Shahbazi (Colorado Springs, Colo.) lost to Kazakhstan's Cansel Deniz, 28-3.
The Grand Prix competition concludes on Sunday with the male -80kg and female -49kg divisions. In action for the U.S. in the male -80kg class will be Jaysen Ishida (Waikele, Hawaii) and Thomas Rahimi (Irving, Texas).
